Good thinking there.

It's always hard to picture/plan for the worst day in a hundred years. Especially when all you see for hundreds of days in a row is nice weather.

It may be many years before we get another hurricane, but we're trying to build to endure one. Especially since we're right on the beach with no land to break up the initial winds. (I'm not too worried about water as we're about 16 feet above sea level) We will eventually get hit by a strong one (hopefully not before my upstairs roof is poured ) There's a lot of un-reinforced block up there right now.

BG: I haven't really looked at doors much yet. Home Depot/Lowes have some. The doors are nice, but the door frames leave little to be desired. I really should have looked harder last time I was in the U.S., as we should have known the exact frame size when we made the door openings. I wound up making the exterior door openings 1/2 inch bigger than the average 36 inch door frame. I hope that doesn't limit our options later. BTW, we do plan to get all the interior doors locally.

Well; look at the bright side, bro.

All you need is some 1/4" shim on either side and you're all set.
Had you made them 1/2" too small however...

I only ask Wooo as I was considering switching our wood doors to fiberglass. I gave them a really good marine grade finish but the elements here are brutal. They still look pretty good but I can see the writing on the wall and eventually I am going to make the change. I had it on my shopping list of things to look for next shopping trip north...

Looks like you'll be shopping before me. I'd appreciate any info you can pass along...

Regarding the doors.
If I may.

It might be worth looking at Metal Door Frames.
They can be ordered broken down an assembled on site.
If the opening is a little bigger the gaps and frame could be filled with cement after they are secured.
I also think that they come in numerous styles to accept different types of doors. ie. Wood, Metal, PVC.....

A buddy built a walk-up from his basement to back yard a few years ago and used metal Frame, Stainless Steel Fasteners and hardware with a wood/PVC door set in frame.
He did this because his walk-up faces west and in the winter he could and has ended up with about 3' of snow against the door.
He has not had any issues with water (or cold) during thaw's with this setup.

The heavy salty air here eats up metal doors...

Good idea, but BG's right. The salt eats up metal.

For Security, on our garage, we have a commercial steel man-door and frame. I like it because it's indestructible, but I'm constantly trying to keep in front of the rust. Even good quality paint needs touchup regularly in this salty environment. Way too much work to have even more steel....

When stainless steel rusts as it does out here, you know you got problems...

FYI guys

The where to buy has a bunch of California suppliers.
I think the frames can come broken down.

Impact Entry Doors - Plastpro Fiberglass Doors

I was looking for Composite Wood stuff because somebody told me they are actually more durable than Fibreglass and fell upon the above link.

Here's three sites we have been looking at:

Masonite Fiberglass Doors

Door Super Store - Rustic Fiberglass Doors

Jeld-Wen Custom Fiberglass Doors

Right now we are leaning towards the Rustic Fiberglass style...

A friend told me of a place up in the San Fernando Valley that makes them at a pretty competitive price. Hope to be able to go see them my next trip north...

It's been hot and humid. Not La Paz hot, but definitely uncomfortable working weather. I spent several hours up on the second story roof yesterday doing electrical and placing boxes for the recessed lights prior to the upstairs roof pour. I don't know how those guys stay up there all day, in that heat, and continue laughing, talking and singing until the last hour of the work day. I'm such a wimp

I can't believe how fast it's going up:

First WOW What a beautiful house. I keep looking at the photos and am truely impressed. I will have to come down some day and look at it. Also I do not know how the Mexicans are able to work all day in the heat either. They are the same way here in Arizona.
Must be the cerveza and tequila.

Thank you.

Yes, there's plenty of beer. They work until 4:00 pm each day. At 2:00 they do a "Borra", or draw sticks to see who's going to buy the Ballenas for that day. At 2:30, there's an afternoon beer break. I think they look forward to the Borra more than the beer though. It's always an event.

I already drew the short straw since I'm the one who is bringing out the beer at the end of each day. I know I don't have to and even the guys themselves remind me so but they work so hard and have done such a great job it seems like such a small price to pay. Several days this week they have stayed until close to dark to finish up on the task at hand - a work ethic that is hard to find in most places north or south of the border...
