Clear & starry last night, dark clouds this AM....less wind, no rain today, but quite a bit cooler here today. Clear & starry again tonight. But the weather maps now show some crap headed our way from the west. Not the slightest upset that I can't make it to Ensenada for pepper cheese, but a slightly shorter distance for Cadillac Margaritas might be doable....alas, I heard a rumor that the sheets for the guest room are still hanging out in the line waiting for sun!

As long as you don't mind them smelling like 409...

We finally got a little rain this morning. A few 1 or 2 minute downpours. Now it's over. Not enough rain the rinse off the 409. That's the last time I try one of your little cleaning tips

Last night we had South winds from 25 to 35 mph. Now it's sustained 30 to 35. There are so many shrimp boats in the bay, some had to anchor on the outside. They appear to be having a rough time. It's dark, but I can see gear flapping over the side of the boat in front of us as it's bow burrows under each swell.

Started raining about 6:00 am, but only lasted about an hour.

Just now the sounds changed outside. The wind suddenly switched from south at 35 to west at 20. The front must have just passed. Now maybe the shrimpers will get a little break. The bay's protected from west winds.

By the way...35mph is the threshold for launching resin chairs 10-20 yards.

These are the poor guys that were anchored in front of us last night. It appeared they lost control the shoreward outrigger, or the rope controlling it came loose just before dawn. When it was light enough to take a picture they had somehow re-gained control of it.

After the wind switched, it calmed down a bit and they were able to wrestle the outriggers onto the deck:

I thought for sure, several times in the process, one of them was going overboard or was going to get squished by that huge chunk of metal. Glad that's over

Here's a video of the guys crawling out onto the boom to free the outrigger. I don't think I'd want to be the guys on the boom, nor the guy on the other side working on the boom in his underwear!

Edit: Psst: very close on the youtube; post just the alphanumeric after the = sign, highlight it, then click the youtube button. Quote this post to see the resulting code, Marty.

Wow; two guys climbing that boom. Thing was swinging a good 20-30' up and down the whole time.

Ron... are you out there? Antonio reports many bridges out north and south of your location!

Yeah, just got back online. We got a lot of rain on Tuesday and Wednesday but Thursday it didn't stop all day long until Friday morning. The wind was coming at us so hard I had to hold onto something at times if I dared venture outside. I have heard the reports of bridges washed out. I am waiting for an update to see when I can head north as I have business to attend to at the border.

It was really crazy watching the rain come flying by from the south on the horizontal. First time I have seen rain actually pool for that long on top of the sand here...
