WooHoo! It worked!
So what you have above is, the potting up area, using the back of the truck to pot up the plants and then drive them over to where they will be spending the summer, and several pics of the different varieties out in the field where they will be getting lots of sun. Our weather has been so unbelievably crappy this spring, rain every day, hail a few days ago, I haven't had to water the plants since they went into their bigger pots, and we've only been able to cut the grass one time. It's always too wet to mow. I'm thinking of getting the neighbor up here with his hay baler to take care of the front yard LOL! We ended up with 185 plants, and that's after giving away probably 60 plants. I even had someone drive 3 1/2 hours one way, to pick up some plants he really wanted. So I sent him home with a dozen plants, some fresh salsa (I was in the middle of making salsa when he showed up, bonus for him!) chipotle hot sauce and some tropical fruit sauce. I gave another dozen to some gardener friends who are also chileheads, and took ~20 to the jobsite where we are working and just let people take them. Some of the mystery peppers have pods on them already, but the really hot peppers will take a while longer. I'll be back soon with pics of pods and flowers. Still trying to get used to the new Win7.

Sure is strange how one starts out with a very large grow, and attrition sets from any number of things..
Glad you started big... they are looking pretty darn good, given your weather ... Going to be fun to see what comes off.... Thanks for all your work and effort.... ![]() ![]()

Thanks for the comments wesson and msty. We've been trying to get them in pots for 2 weeks and the weather has stunk so bad, I finally decided to just let others take over some of them. Speaking of food, they';re due for some ferts tomorrow. Something for the kid to do while we're working. :!:

ever hopeful, ...
And what I said about the fertilizers... We left that as a chore for the youngster while we were at work. Take some 16-16-16 ferts out of the bag and sprinkle around the base of the plants. About 1/4 of the way through the plants, some granular fertilizer got onto his bare foot and gave him a decent chemical burn on his foot. SO~ that chore will need to be revisited! After getting home this evening from the dentist...and still feeling like a chipmunk!..... I'm really happy with the new growth. Pics in the AM.. I Promise!.... unless some nighttime pics turn out back in a while~~~~~

Just followed your link on Texas hot sauce...
Imagine you may have something in mind with this tremendous variety of "peppers" and would think that would be really fun too... Making up one's own "Hot sauces"... with what ever one is able to develop I'm sure you're making a list for the next grown already.... This is from last year.. my tobacco is in front.. was using the square foot gardening approach.. was able to just put a simple "feeder" in line to the drip.. had three 4' x 4' squares, which then has a total of 16 one foot squares which can be planted. First was tobacco, the second: swiss chard, onions, jalapeno, habenero, Anaheim, basal, rosemary, thyme, black eyed beans, bush beans, bell pepper, zucchini, summer squash third: corn in the first three rows of 1' foot square (2/square 12), the last row, tomato (roma), tomato (beef steak), cucumbers, and cantaloupe ... had six water melons plants on the same drip line but in a border area of the grass... It's hard for me to get around, but using this method.. of decreased size one can effectively handle a lot, in a small area with very good results.. Once you find out how much production you may want you can adjust the planting to suit your own needs.. this of course was not a commercial venture.. just something I had always wanted to try... grow food in a small area for your own table... and it worked.. and was a lot of fun.. and I only needed help for the soil prep.. used Garden soil from Home Depot... and my son.. did that for me...

wesson, I have that book aboput the square foot garden. It makes a lot of sense, just never had the chance to implement it.
I've never had the chance to work with fresh peppers other than jalapenos, so I'm really excited to see what new flavors will emerge. This year's pods will mostly be used for experimenting with recipes, and hopefully I'll be able to develop a couple recipes that will showcase the flavor of the peppers without pealing the skin off of the inside of the taster's mouth. The scary part is.... in order to develop a sauce and meld flavors together, I first have to taste the raw pepper................GULP! ![]() ![]() I'm going to try and upload some more pics now. brb~

well, sorry guys and gals, Win7 is ticking me off AGAIN! Once again, I cannot find any photos when I try to upload using photobucket or Manage Attachments.
So I'm off to throw the new notebook into the toilet, then I will reboot, and try again..........

Well, with the light of a new day, i found a way around the issue and got some pics to photobucket.
Here are a few I took the other night, I had a red light from a headlamp I was playing around with also, so a couple of the images have funny red areas.

and below we have-
fatalii fatalii flower tall, viney aji amarillo mystery pods peter peppers w/ pointy leaves purple pepper pepper plant 9don't know why it's purple when all the others are light green) and the last one is "the little sprout that could". When we were all done transferring the sprouts out of the germination trays to their small pots, I dumped all the extra dirt into a bucket. 2 weeks later, the boy comes into the house holding a clump of dirt with a tiny little sprout. This one gets to stay in the house for a while longer. :)

right now we are around 78-84F days and 48-55F nights. I'm worried about the 90F+ days that are coming soon. When the temps get over 90F for days on end, the plants stop producing flowers or pods. I'm considering a shade cloth structure. It'll cost maybe $120, but it should last for 15 years.
I found some leftover landscape fabric, so this morning I re-did the pepper patch. There was getting to be too much grass and weeds growing around the plants. Below is a picture of one of the plants in the grass, with Sevin on the plant because it already had an ants nest in the bag. Also, there are pictures of the plants on the fabric, some nice looking Red Savina habaneros with a close up of a tiny pod, some not-so-nice looking 7 Pods (a lot of the plants are dropping their large first-growth leaves but they have tons of new growth all up the stem.) The plants are finally getting settled in to their new pots and the weather is finally starting to act like summer, so I'm confident the peppers will rebound and be just fine. I'll keep up on the ferts and keep my fingeres crossed.
