Wesson, thanks for that video link,

it was one we watched early on and said to ourselves...wth are we doing?!?!???

'Nuts 0.5 and I took some of the sauces to the hoiday bazaar last weekend, sold quite a few and heard a horror story today of someone who tried one of the candied habaneros. I tried one while making them and it LIT ME UP!!!! Literally RAN to the house looking for the milk jug!

(what's that they say about "paybacks"/ LOL! )

The latest chapter in the Chile Pepper Grow Log is the dehydrating part.
As the chiles ripened, they were dehydrated and saved until everything was done.

Today, was GRINDING DAY!

Now I have to say that for most chile growers/users, a simple coffee grinder works perfectly! But for quantity, ya gotta break out the Big Banana! The DeWalt!!! and the Maxis!

OK- back up-
as the pictures will show, I had a grain grinder with a handle and flywheel, but I was not about to sit there for 2 hours on the flywheel working on grinding dehydrated chiles! I love my customers, but there is a point where enough is enough.....

So Anyway- below you will see part of a gear set up we use to pull wire through conduit. It uses the big DeWalt drill and through gears and a rope around the spindle, pulls the wire.

I just adapted it it to the flywheel with a fan belt and PRESTO!
Happy Habaneros!

I also taped the plastic bag around the chute to contain the powder. It worked great! Not a lot of powder flying around the room. And the auger opening is really small so I used the wood handle of a wire whip to push the dry chiles down into the auger chute.

I think there's a wooden pusher around here some where, but I was in a hurry and the wooden handle of the wire whip worked great!

Just winging it~ ;)

wesson- in regards to the bro-in-law...

There's a tentative plan to get together with friends in the Seattle area and go to one of those places that serve chicken wings/buffalo wings/hot wings and eat one of the "super-spicy chicken wing" challenges.

Super-spicy chicken wings- eat 'em all in the allotted time=free t-shirt

I was thinking of suckering in....I MEAN..."INVITING!!!".....the bro to join us at the table. Video would be running for sure. ;)

I'll let you know and post if /when it happens. I know we'll be doing the challenge at some time when we're in the area, but for us it's a 5 hour drive to get to the restaurant, so it'll have to be a "when we're in the area" events.

Thanks, everyone, for checking in on the chile pepper grow log of 2010.

We had a blast growing and eating the chiles this year. And we appreciate everyone's positive comments. Next year we will have some different varieties, and hope to have a head start on the growing season in that we are trying to over-winter quite a few plants.

I hope you enjoyed the posts and even got a little chuckle from our pain on the videos.

CHEERS!

Nuts 1, you picked your name well!! I just watched the video of you & .5 eating those damn peppers....all I can say is that you SEEMED like such a sensible person when we met! I'm in pain from watching that video! I've now concluded that insanity does run in your family!!

That's close to my reaction with anything other than sweet bell peppers! And you wondered why I graciously refused your offer to send me some salsa????

I really think you should submit a link of this to Dewalt. They would probably get a big kick out of seeing another application for their equipment...
