Man, I make a quick trip out of town and this thread went down hill fast??? So let's get back on topic...

The news out of Michoacan reports confirmation from the state DA's office that those taken were all working men with no criminal records. It is looking more and more like a case of mistaken identity. I keep praying that these guys will just show up alive and with a story to tell...

Default Leech line shortage

Mexico.. Today... report from Home Depot... permeant shortage of leech line for ever... new technology being developed while we speak..

Come on ... sounded pretty normal to me... just a disagreement about something... happens daily... or if it doesn't

Have someone throw some dirt on ya... your dead...

The latest news is that there is no news on the whereabouts of these 20 guys. The police of Acapulco have been accused of dragging their feet the first few days after their disappearance as it appears they believed (like many) that the victims were probably involved or related to organized crime. When the men were all investigated and not one came back with any criminal record they changed gears but to the family, valuable time was lost in the first 48 hours.

Now the local military has gotten involved in the investigation and search. Family members back home in Michoacan are holding out hope and have made many public pleas to those who took their family members to let them go free.

If it didn't, they found some pretty good actors to play their family members. I watched a news report interviewing their wives, parents and siblings back in Michoacan.

They seemed pretty convincing...

Any further news about this?

Were they kidnapped for ransom, or some thugs just felt like killing for the heck of it.

If this turns out to be accurate, that's one among quite a few death nails in the coffin of tourism.

How's that for a mangled metaphor?

I read several different articles online, all explaining that they were killed on orders from the "Familia de Michoacan", because they had lost the control of the city of Altamirano (in Guerrero) to a rival gang, yet not one source explains what tied this group of victims to that.

Yeah...right. Sure don't want to upset them tourists with the truth. Very thoughtful:
--------------------------------------------------------

Google Sez...

Spanish to English translation
Gov. Leonel Godoy said he prefers to maintain an optimistic stance, questioned about the case of the 20 kidnapped in Acapulco Michoacan.

"I prefer to keep the hope that they will return alive. We can not be pessimistic. It is better to wait for that work in the Attorney General of Guerrero."

Following the recent events surrounding the case, the state leader reported:

"I think we should await the course of investigations, there is still nothing confirmed or denied."

He noted that first and foremost a matter of patience.

"I understand that the media should inform, but last night there was still no security in the information circulated. I'd rather wait."

- Do you have confidence in the authorities of Guerrero?

- "I'd rather wait, I prefer to wait."

Confirmed the position of attorney general of Michoacán to attract the appropriate federal agencies.

"We have insisted that was a matter of organized crime, it is necessary to attract the PGR. I made the formal request echoing the request of the family."

He reiterated the innocence of the hostages.

"We all testimony and evidence that they were people with an honest living. For the first time that we released a message to those who had taken them to return them because they obviously were confused, as it has proven so honest living. "

- Has taken in Guerrero with the research?

- Have to see. It is not faster or slower, if not to collect evidence, analyze it. That's not what could I say but the state attorney.

Very sad indeed. This is the kind of thing that leaves a lasting impression of how others in the world view Mexico. Truth be told there are thugs that do horrible things everywhere.
I will pray for the families of those affected by this tragedy.
