I got that from an interview with the director of the CBP at San Ysidro they ran on a TV special covering the Mexican cartels a few months ago.

I tried surfing to find stats broken down, but gave up. Since the UN estimates that the cartels are good for something like $182 billion dollars per year spread over pot, coke, heroin and meth, I still have to believe that even if legalization of marijuana was doable in the US, it would not put the cartels out of business.

As for that idea of pot legalization, we have been over this topic many times, and it would seem that if it ever happens, it will be many years away. Too many jobs relying on drug enforcement. Too many blue noses and religious types that object (even as they gulp down their Jack Daniels).

On that we agree.

As far as the the true breakdown on drug types/quantities moved by the cartels I wasn't able to find any set in stone numbers either. Maybe the CBP chief was just shooting from the hip based on % of confiscations at the San Ysidro border crossing?

Haven't been a bartender since my days in college working at the Manhasset Country Club on Long Island, where I used to serve Whitey Ford and a bunch of his Yankee teammates before they went to play ball.

But, I do seem to recall that neat is neat. No ice. If it's over ice, it's on the rocks.
