Hello fellow Bajaer's,
We will be travelling from Stockton CA on 5-23 and plan to be in or around Ensenada prior to dark, we were hoping you could help us with a secure hotel. We will be traveling with 2 trucks, one pulling a 24' boat, any suggestions? Thanks, Connie & Brett

Were you preferring on the north side or south side of Ensenada?

Prefer the south side of Ensenada with easy in & out access, and secure location if possible. Our friend will probably insist on sleeping in his boat but there will be 5 of us who need 2-3 rooms. Cost should be less than what we pay in the states so $20-30 US (not sure what rooms go for as the last time I stayed in Ensanada was 1989). Thanks for your help. Brett & Connie

On another forum, not to be mentioned here, Quintas Papgayos was suggested. However, it is actually North of Ensenada and the most recent reviews at Tripadvisor.com really trash the place. Estero Beach is gate-guarded, secure and has good rooms and a decent restaurant. Plus, it's almost to Maneadero, which give you a head start going South.

If you want to get even farther south before turning in, there's the El Palomar in Santo Tomas. RV spaces.....restaurant....motel....gas. Just a thought.
I thought we covered our preferences pretty well on the "other site." I mentioned there as well that we were at the Bahia the other day and the place was empty. It was mentioned that your weekend is also a race weekend so things will change. One more thing....the 20 / 30 dollar per night motel rooms are almost a thing of the past. These merchants may be hungry but they operate with a different business plan than you would expect. It wouldn't surprise me that they have raised their prices with the onset of tough times. Quintas Papagayo is still my recommendation. |

I agree. Even though QP is at the northern edge of Ensenada, you still only pick up maybe 30 minutes by staying in Estero, which, btw, is probably going to be quite pricey that weekend.

Frankly, never heard of the Motel California. Did want to give you the link to Trip Advisor, so you could see what folks were saying about Papagayos.

WOW....Nasty stuff about QP. I think I'll retract my recommendation till further notice.
I think the California RV park, or whatever, is on the highway between Las Rosas and Sauzal. They also have rooms. Used to stay there forty years ago. |

It's actually fun to check out the reviews on the Tripadvisor website. Many are useless, such as the person who complained about a beachfront resort because he booked a package from a travel website at an amazing rate and ended up with a room on the other side of the resort facing a parking lot! On the other hand, when there are multiple reviews complaining about filth, maintenance, or surly employees, that's something to consider.

Hey thank you for all your info, we decided to go with what we know and stay in Chula Vista, CA then hit the border at San Ysidro first thing in the morning. Less traffic to fight at 6:00 am. Thanks again for all your help & info, You're the greatest group of people! Connie
