Default Count down to Baja

We leave this friday afternoon for our Baja Turkey day week. Lists are made, boxes packed (need to wrap in plastic as rain is forcasted in Sacramento) and excitement is mounting! Expect to cross SY with 3 cats, plastic wrapped boxes of household goods in truck, frozen turkey, wine and smiles @ 2:00 am.

Our house has been on the market for 6 months! The sound I hear while sitting on my patio is NOT the ocean, its I 80 Our RE agent says our house is one of the few not distressed, not in forclosure, is clean and well maintained, but no offers yet.

So we will "make do" with only a short visit until the final move in the unknown, unforeseeable future.

Enjoy your trip!

Selling right now is something I don't wish on anyone. We were lucky and found a buyer, but had to settle for much less than we had ever anticipated. To add insult to injury, our appraisal was $20,000 less than we sold it for, so we had to drop the price... again so the buyer could get his loan! Escrow finally closed yesterday...three weeks late due to some pretty ridiculous demands, and screw ups from the buyers lender.

Congratulations my friend. Lots of folks NOB with homes for sale are wishing they could say the same thing right now. A friend of mine has his home on the block in Orange County and I keep telling him he needs to put his pride aside and lower the price $80K if he wants to see any offers. It is a hard pill to swallow but the only way he will be able to really begin his Baja retirement. So glad you guys don't have to worry about that anymore...

Gointomex,

We also had the misfortune to make the Baja move during a bad downturn in the market.
Had to sell our Carmichael home for a lot less than we counted on, besides some other properties. And then had severe overruns on our Baja house, some because of contractor, some of changes made by us.
But, I'm happy to report, never had a moment of regret, and that goes for the better half also. Somehow, after the newness wears off, you don't quite realize what you have. But a small refresher course, like going to Sacramento for a visit and be on a city street, instead of overlooking the golfcourse and the mountains beyond and the sea of Cortez on the other side, will make you realize again how right your move was.

Thanks Guys! We're so excited.

Gointomex, your place will sell, and when it does it's a great feeling. Hang in there.

BigWooo is right - your house will sell but the lesson is that you need to be realistic as to what will bring an offer today. Money comes and goes but today happens only once. The sooner your house is sold the sooner you will be enjoying life down here - something worth a lot more than money.

Things will work out...

We thought we were smart, never refi-ing, until we bought in Baja in 2006! Probably bought high with high value on current house, and have reduced price to loan amt. and will pull $ from 401K to pay off. I figured it is just an early pay off to retirement. I know it will sell - I just don't want it to sell in our original 5 year plan I want it to sell on our NOW plan.

Part of the problem is (was) that I was laid off - wholesale rep to high $ retail stores and they are hurting, so limited, read none, jobs out there with many of my former clients out of business. So why not sell and move to Baja? Hubby has to give 90 days notice at work, so we will be very flexible on pricing and closing. I and cats will come down, he will stay at Extended Stay Hotel. So glad to hear others are able to sell.

So we will just enjoy that short visit - knowing it will be permanent some day (soon.....)
