My guess would be Alaska or Japan.

My vote, San Francisco. Though Baja becoming an island does have its appeal, always wanted to live on an island anyway..

Gee, a few more earthquakes like this and maybe we can have our own revolution, declaring the peninsula a new country!

It's anyone's guess. I do recall listening to Lucy Jones of USGS commenting about the fact that most people don't realize how frequently earthquakes occur around the world.
Here's a link to a study that purports an ever-increasing frequency of quakes. http://www.earth.webecs.co.uk/ That said, as of this morning the death toll for the recent Mexicali area quake appears to be 2. Just think. That quake had a magnitude larger than the Haiti quake that killed many thousands. All kinds of factors are involved in the difference. Aside from some obvious infrastructure and building code issues, the location of the epicenter and the direction of the major energy force makes a real difference. The Mexicali quake sent most of its force Northwestward from the epicenter, which luckily involved a very sparsely populated region. |
