Default Muchas Gracias

A big thanks to several TB members in the La Paz area that have gone out of thier way to make my wife feel at home, in what is to be our new home, La Paz. Mrs. Dra. Bajabass has made 3 trips down to La Paz in the last 2 months, LUCKY HER! All things look good for a move soon, but not soon enough for me I really look forward to meeting all the people who are helping in many ways to ease our migration south. Looks like La Paz is going to be gaining a new Dra., and another fisherman! Also the new Alpha Male baja sheepherder, Winston D. Dog!!

Did you find a place to call home yet?
Are you renting or buying right off the bat? I am curious how the rental market is looking down there.
Lucky you!

A rental will most likely happen first. Employment for Dra. Bajabass is in the works, and we are looking at several lots. Looks like I may end up having to build a house before retirement kicks in. The deals seem to be on desireable lots, not existing homes.

What kind of rental prices are you seeing for decent places?
I will be looking at 3 bedroom places for my family when the time comes in a couple of years and I have heard wildly varying rental prices. I have had people email me stating they would rent me places that sounded very nice for under or around $1000 US/month.

We will only need a smaller two bedroom, but I have seen many different rentals on the internet from 400-1000 a month. My wife has really been concentrating on houses and lots on her trips down. A rental will be the least of our problems. The main glitch is going to be selling my business to fund a new permanent abode. Therefore, it looks like the wife will be getting set up down there, while I stay behind and sell this place. Not real happy about her being gone, but if she gets a toe-hold going, watch out La Paz!!! I'll be right behind her, so, warn the fish!!

Awesome and good for you guys.....sucks on having to sell in this economy but it sounds as if your skill set will come in extremely handy.
It will be interesting to see how the new residency permits will effect all of us when the time comes.
It sounds as if they are still determining the new rules.

Bajabass.....Da nada! Now if you'd just step up to the plate & get that business sold!

BTW, I've been hearing a new rumor that Mexico is going to stop issuing fishing licenses to gringos! It seems that fish are a natural national resource & gringos aren't eligible to take them!

Soulpatch.....There's a HUGE difference in pricing between short-term vacation rentals & long-term rental pricing. Most published pricing is geared towards short-term vacation rentals. If you specify you're only interested in a fair price long-term rental price, they'll typically name a price somewhere in the middle as a starting negotiation point. You have to stand your ground & do some heavy negotiating.

But first, you'll need to come down & look at different areas to see what feels like a good fit for your family. You're making a good head-start on research!

Yes, we do need to get down but our next getaway will be to our place in BOLA at the end of June. Over the next year we will be making our way down, though.
All I really need is more time..........
