Default Former Governor of Quintana Roo extradited

The United States Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) applauded the extradition of former governor of the Mexican state of Quintana Roo, Mario Villanueva Madrid, to the United States as an international collaboration. I don't believe I have EVER seen something like this in my entire life... the United States going into another Country and "collecting" individuals who can not be brought to Justice in their own Country, so they are taken out of their own Country, by United States Enforcement personnel and brought into the United States for trials and sentencing ...

It does put someone in jail, however that "hole or slot" in the Cartel is filled and the "business" continues on......

Maybe they should just legalize it.... and make the growers of pot similar to "Juan Valdeze" the old fella that used to "hand pick" our coffee beans.....

Good pr and many jobs for good growers south of the border... plus they could have a lot of work

Technically, we're not going down there and collecting them. Mexico had long resisted allowing extradition, but a by-product of the Merida initiative and to allow Calderon to show he's serious about his war on the cartels, we have been extraditing bad guys for the past couple of years. Calderon must feel relieved that his people don't have to deal with the process beyond signing some documents.

That said, I find it somewhat interesting that there has been almost no reported violence, murders, kidnappings, Etc. usually associated with cartel activity to have taken place in either Quintana Roo or Yucatan state. must have been a quid pro quo.

Lastly, while I have long advocated legalization of weed, this guy and this situation involves massive amounts of cocaine.

If you don't think the very hight tec intel from the DOD is not being brought to bear in Mexico... just like in Columbia... think again..

Call it what you want, but I would bet dollars to donuts.. there are Delta Force boots on the ground .... and joint operations..

It's been a long time ago that I worked cross border with Mexican officals.. but we were down there working and doing investigation and developing case files on individuals who were coming back HERE one way or the other....

As for being Cocaine... legalize that too... legalize it all, get the law out of my personal life.. ... there should be complete individual freedom for doing what ever you want to do to your own body.. provided you harm no one else but yourself.. and for the health question... how much a .38 shell going to cost... it's in my will....

Perhaps one step at a time. I cannot see legalization done in an across the board manner. We are about as close as ever in legalizing marijuana. Started with the medicinal benefit. In reality, in states like California, virtually anyone can legally obtain the stuff. The big selling point now is to tax and regulate it for general use. If there was any form of a link between pot legalization and any of the harder drugs, legal pot would become a non-starter.

I fully appreciate your libertarian view on such matters. But there are just too many people out there who either want to tell you how to live your life, or make a living off of the process.

And more of those people every day.....I find the rationale of taxing it kinda dumb. Why would anyone even buy it? It's easier to grow on an apartment balcony than to make your own home brew. For the few who aren't inclined to water a plant every once in a while, their friends who do can give it to them as gifts.
The bigger benefit is the theoretical reduction of resources needed to deall with it as an illegal substance.

For the penny-pinching hobbiest, perhaps. I don't grow my own tomatoes, either.

As for the benefit of reducing the resources now deployed in this so-called war, just think how much we could save if we brought most of our troops home? Just read recently about the situation on Okinawa. I seem to recall the Japanese surrendering about 65 years ago. Have any idea how many troops we have there? Not to mention to US dollars that get spent into the local economy? how about Germany? Iraq? Even that Oz-like place who's crooked president is being wined and wooed by Obama?

From what I gather Tomatoes are more challenging. Speaking from my own experience if you win the war against the insects, two days before they are truly vine-ripened the birds get 'em.

As for the second paragraph....with the info publicly available...you're not gonna get any pushback from this poster.
