Sad to see what is going on in Mexico. I am glad though that it hasn't escalated like this in Baja. Having never lived in Mexico, I married a señorita and moved from L.A. to the Lomas Hipodromo section of Tijuana. Very nice area where alot of politicians live and I soon found out that alot of narcos also. My wife was a dentist and I was a Sparkletts water man. On my sixth year of living in Tijuana, one day I was coming home from the store on the narrow streets of our neighborhood and I had my then 5-year old son with me. There were 5 vehicles in front of us and I was tail-end charlie. All of a sudden the lead vehicle, a van, stopped and guys with ak-47's just started pouring out of it. They quickly surrounded the vehicle directly in front of us and proceeded to kidnap the driver. The assailants proceeded to form a ring around the victims car and my car. One man came up to my window and put a ak-47 to my face and he asks me " Que miras hijo de tu chingada madre"? his lips were trembling with anger and all I could think of replying was " Disculpe señor, yo nomas fui al OXXO a comprar leche". He allowed my son and I to back away and go another direction. When we got home we packed what we could and immediately crossed into the states. My son is 8 now and he still remembers that day vividly. No child should have to witness such events. It took me over two years before I mustered the courage to return to Mexico but only to eat or on business. I feel more relaxed now that the situation has calmed down somewhat in Tijuana. I will be in San Quintin June 24th for some fishing and relaxation. Still bypass Tijuana altogether and I really feel safe anywhere south of Ensenada.
