Arturo Sandoval
Chucho Valdez Paquito d' Rivera Flora Purim y Airto Moreira (Brazilian) Poncho Sanchez Ray Barretto Eddie Palmieri Dizzy Gillespie Mongo Santamaria Willy Bobo Fania All Stars Tito Puente Antonio Carlos Jobim Astrud and Joao Gilberto Cal Tjader Willy Colon I am mostly listing Latin Jazz instrumentalists here in the Afro Cubano, Puerto Rican, American Jazz/Latin fusion and Brazilian Bossa Nova Genres. Dizzy Gillespie is included in this list because he was a pioneer in playing and developing the genre and also for bringing several musicians into his band from Cuba and Puerto Rico. I would say literally all Jazz Musicians have this genre in their repertories. Horace Silver, Art Blakeley and The Jazz Messengers, Stan Getz and many many more. ![]() And then there was the revival documentary by Ry Cooder, of The Buena Vista All Stars; older and almost forgotten great Cuban musicians and singers. Celia Cruz was probably the most famous. They toured the U.S and became very popular all over again. Alas, most have died since the film was released. I went to Cuba about seven years ago to see and hear the music that is currently being played. It was one of the most memorable highlights of my life. ![]() |

Horace Silver....(song for my father is in my Ipod currently) Lee Morgan Chick Corea Cal Tjader Freddie Hubbard Charley Byrd Miles Davis (lots out of the Blue Note catalog) Ken |

What? No Daddy Yankee on anybody's list?
Come on admit it, you know all the words to La Gasolina. LOL My favorite album of all time is by a group called Del Sol out of Phoenix. Made one album, almost impossible to find. They call their genre "nouveau Flamenco" and I would love to find anything else like it. Kind of a jazzy Flamenco sound. Any suggestions? |

I love to listen to Vicente (as my neighbors call him, no elaboration needed). When I first heard "El Alazán y el Rocio" shortly after moving here, I was over to their place in a shot going, "¿Qué canción? or something like that. Powerful stuff ... he seems to appeal to folks of all ages.
