Default What do you tell your kid

who is in Guadalara for a month where she spends 8 hours a day at school and is staying with two old ladies that she needs to see the good side of the city and not the negatives that jump out at you?
Anybody know of any great guides down there that can take her out for a couple of killer weekend trips?
I would like to set something up for her this weekend if I can.
Saludos

I have made a couple of trips to Guadalajara and my best memories while there were in the zona historica and trips made outside the downtown area like up to Ajijic, Chapala and Jocotepec where the weather is also probably much nicer right now.

Are you looking for an online/print travel guide or a person to serve as her companion/guide?

Sorry if I didn't get that clearly from your post...

After spending some time searching for these it made me realize how much I missed in my trips there! At least this should get her started...

Default No doubt

I really appreciate it. Immersion at a higher learning center can be challenging. I sent her the link to this thread and hopefully it will make a difference for her.

Pretty sure Fred Reed lives there.

He occasionally responds to my email caterwauling, but maybe not in just a couple of days. Shoot him a line; email on his site. His step-daughter looks to be about mid/late teenish.

I suspect we all share a somewhat...irreverent view of how things are going here.

Age of this "kid"?? Interests will vary greatly depending on your daughters age.

And just out of curiosity, what is the age of the two "old ladies"? Those of us in the "blue-haired" generation need that information to determine whether or not we resemble that remark!

I've never been to Guadalajara, but I know that a lot of different types of hand-crafted things come out of that area. Would she have any interest in any Artisan types of things she could watch being made?

Default Ha Ha!

She is 21.....so anyone my age is probably old.....and I'm 47. No, I think they are quite elderly.....from her description. Like serious sit around home bodies looking to rent rooms to students from abroad.

Those "old ladies" better be at least in their mid-90's if you're looking for advice from this baby-boomer non-Geritol-swilling crowd!

She can't be alone in trying to find things of interest outside of school, what are the other students in her age group doing during free time? If the answer is drugs & cantinas, then might I suggest she add a 3rd rocking chair to the old ladies front stoop? Maybe she could explore with a group of fellow students?
