I found it somewhat surprising that he was found to be hiding in plain sight in the Guadalajara area. Seems to me that very little associated with the drug violence has been reported in or near Guadalajara.

Zapopan, just outside Guadalajara, is crawling with "narcos". I lived in TJ for a few years and became good friends with one of our neighbors. Him and I even became "compadres". I sponsored his kid for high school graduation. My friend was always going away on business to Zapopan, Jalisco. It wasn't until his last day in TJ, prior to him moving permanently to Zapopan, that he told me he was a top ranking capo with a certain cartel. You wanna talk about shivers down my spine.

He was also really good friends with a comandante who lived up the street. This comandante, Hector Zazueta, was later kidnapped, tortured, and murdered.
