Hmmm. I know I've participated in a discussion about Mexican political parties before. Seems to me that the PAN, although it has its roots connected to the Catholic Church and was considered to be a "peoples party" has seemingly evolved in recent times to what would be considered a small government, pro-business party which would make comparisons to the US Republican party reasonable. I would not consider the background of either Calderon or Fox to fit into a pro-labor mold. Same thing happened in the US. The Democrats were not really considered a populist bunch, until the very wealthy and patrician FDR was elected, who going against his own background, established a host of socialist programs to deal with the great depression.
