Continental, American, and TACA airlines all fly in to Managua.

Continental routes you to Houston, then Managua. This is do-able in one day. We fly out of San Diego or Orange County to Houston and have been able to avoid LAX. John Wayne works better for us and the price is usually less than flying out of San Diego. Continental is my preference.

American takes you to Miami, then Managua. We've flow American out of John Wayne also, and the route is John Wayne-Dallas FW-Miami-Managua.Outbound requires an overnighter in Miami but the return flight can be done in one day.

TACA (Central American airline) flies direct from LAX to Managua (some flights stop for an hour in El Salvador). The tickets are usually a little cheaper on TACA but the flights leave LAX at 1 am.

Hacienda Iguana resort is 2 hours south of Managua. Most major car rental companies are located at the airport and larger hotels in Managua if you want to drive yourself and there are several private transport services and taxis that operate between the resort and Managua if you'd rather relax and let someone else drive.
