It is exactly what my gut and common sense have been telling me. Mexico is too large and diverse a country to paint with a single brush. Of course the other side of the coin is that it does not paint a pretty picture for the 6% where the majority of the narco-homicides occurred...

From a slightly different perspective, a press release from the Trans Border Institute at the University of San Diego notes that of 31 states, there is but one state that had zero drug related murders in the first 6 months of 2010. That state being Yucatan. And, interestingly, Yucatan had no reported deaths in all of 2009. So, fly to Merida and visit Chichen Itza!
