Gonna get a little picky. Inasmuch as we checked out this hotel three years ago, It is not located in Cancun, but rather in the heart of Playa del Carmen, a couple of blocks from the beach. Its attraction is that it's small (14 rooms), and for the area, cheap (around $75). We opted for a place on Isla Mujeres instead.

That said, Quintana Roo has witnessed very little of the violence that has plagued Mexico. Quite a feat when one considers that the three most populous, and fairly adjacent cities, Cancun, Playa Del Carmen and Chetumal have a combined population of over 3/4 million, which would make Los Cabos appear to be a sleepy little town.

What caught my eye was that the attack was on a bar that killed more women than men. Sounds like a "working bar". Could have been a dispute between local hoods trying to control the neighborhood.

That or a jealous wife / girlfriend...

Good point, in that the place is located in a densely packed commercial district.
