I guess I'll be a judge. (Tasting costs $1.00 per rib + side dish.)

I used to clip them religiously. (Got it from my father -- a compulsive coupon-clipper who would brag about the "double-coupon" and "triple-coupon" deals he had gotten on items such as toilet paper and trash bags, all the while, sitting on a quite a bit of savings and investments. His habits would make mine look like those of a wild spender , but it definitely is something learned or genetic!) However, I stopped the coupon-clipping because they are always for the expensive, brand-name stuff, and generics are cheaper than brand name items, even with coupons. Furthermore, I'd always forget to bring the coupons with me to the store.

PS: As I tell the people at Ross Stores (where I shop almost exclusively -- sales only) -- who admire my British green Jaguar XK-8 convertible -- "I got it with the money I saved by shopping at Ross!"

Funny you should ask. I am in a horrible quandary about that car. I LOVE the car and have been very protective of it, only having put about 20,000 miles on it since I bought it (used, with 16,000 mi) in 2005. (I drive my old ;93 Mazda MX6 more often.) I know my Jaguar is NOT a good car for Baja (it may be a "thief magnet," in addition to its off-road problems). But I don't think I could STAND to part with it. So, it may come with me and sit in a garage most of the time (which, come to think of it, is what it does now!)

Genesis of a nightmare:

reliable British make(trunk full of spares)

+ trip to Baja

=breakdown; needing the one part not in your trunk.

Actually, it's a Ford. (Ford bought Jaguar in 1997.) I hear tell there's a mechanic in Ensenada that fixes Jags. (And San Diego is not too far away.)

One of the loves of my life was my 740i. It spent most of the time sitting in my garage when we lived in Rosarito and never had any problems driving it in Tijuana - Rosarito - Ensenada. I even found a very good mechanic in Rosarito who took excellent care of it. I knew however that it would never work down here as our place is many miles off the highway and the car would be shredded.

Sold it but still miss it...

Think it would be "the" car to have down here... convertible with the weather we have down here... would be a natural...

Dove down in a MGA in 1965 with another couple they were in a MGB... we stayed at Estero Beach and camped out... we were young and crazy at the time...

Had a blast driving around town with the top down... everyone thought both cars were really cool... you don't see many convertibles and sport cars down here...

As for getting one fixed... cars are cars... and most of the parts are made in either Ensenada of Tijuana anyway.. think not take a look at where the parts come from.. and if you can't get it here.... like you say... San Diego is just up the road...

Know a guy here in El Pescador.. he makes his living working on cars... period, be they Volvo's, MB's, Fords, VW's .. take your pick ... they are all the same... bolt on.. parts or rebuild the engine.. it's not rocket science ... at least not in my book.. have torn a few apart in my day... plus down here... labor for repairs will not approach Agency... by a long shot.. even if you need body work.. there are excellent folks down here begging for work..

I would for sure bring "baby" down.. you would be having one heck of a good time.. Cruising around... the roads are not all that bad.. even the dirt ones..... the Jag was and still is one heck of a statement of automotive engineering ...

Couldn't find a picture of one that was British Racing Green..

Based on the driving I did on my last trip (TJ to Punta Banda to San Quintin to TJ), I don't think it would be fun to do any of the dirt-road driving with the TOP DOWN! Shoot -- I had to keep rolling the windows up whenever I was driving on dirt, to prevent myself from choking to death!

But yes, the paved roads would be OK.

BG: I can sure "feel for you." I think I'd rather keep my car (along with a more practical one) and "drive it into the ground" rather than sell it for what I probably could get for it. Then again, no way will I end up THAT FAR off the pavement!

It ain't Pickilikle Square or whatever that place is up there, but you have to drive fast enough to stay out of your own dust wake. Stick your gawwwdammm foot in it till your breathing clears.

Are you referring to PICCADILLY CIRCUS (in London)?????

Parts of the trip (where they are fixing the highway) had too much traffic for that! And besides, the cheap little rental car would not have gone very fast.

Nobody does Baja in a cheap little rental car. Next time, rent a YEEP.

I rode a Honda 50 from Wyoming to California...once upon a time.

I would pay a small fortune just to see Dennis ride one of these things today from Punta Banda to Ensenada...

I had one when I was 12; no lights though.

I wanted Dennis to be street legal.
