Well doesn't that just suck.

From BajaNomad:

See that ridge running east/west? It's about 4000'.

Quote:
"...the plane apparently hit a 3,900-foot (1,200-meter) hill..."
Couldn't see it, and was just shy of clearing it.

May God bless their souls, and may they know of all our heartfelt thanks for their many selfless acts over the years.

With all the death I've seen, this incident falls into the catagory of, "So sorry. Too bad. A bad combination of bad weather and bad judgement."
This, given the absense of mechanical failure, could have been avoided. Just because they're doctors on a mission doesn't mean they're without blame.

Tell me if I'm wrong.

And another thing while I'm at it....these 33 heroes in Chile.....Other than the heroic leadership underground while trapped, the heroism belongs to the saviors above ground. They were the heroes, but that point seems to be swept aside to facilitate the grotesque movie deal.

Why haven't I heard this mentioned?

Amigo- I really agree with you on the Chile thing. On the other matter, I, personally think you're wrong. But, I do realize that religion and spirituality are so very personal. To each their own. Pax. Or Paz.

About a high probability that poor judgment was a factor? I wouldn't argue that.

On pointing it out in the middle of the families' grief?

I wouldn't do that.

Don't mean to smother you, brother. Compared to some other intemperate characterization/speculation, you harbor no malice.

How's that for some vague yet specific mumbo-jumbo?

Marty's god complex/egomania makes him do it.

Reported that the other two planes in the group made it to San Quintín:

"...reportados por los tripulantes de las otras aeronaves que llegaron a San Quintín..."

"...Este sábado, los Samaritanos tenían una clínica en San Quintín y eran esperados en la pista del Rancho Los Pinos en donde solo aterrizaron dos de tres avionetas que transportaban a los voluntarios. ..."

How?

My guess would the others took a slightly different heading? Your map would indicate he had to climb out at 400' per mile. Never flown a Bonaza so don't know how aggressive that would be fully loaded. Another possibility is ( I lost a friend because of this) errouneous setting on his barometric pressure that would give a slightly incorrect altitude reading, sadly it wouldn't take much to make the difference either in heading or altitude reading. Terribly sad, whatever the reason(s).

I am no pilot but when I stop to think how we are building cars today that can warn you when you are driving erratically, following too close and even park themselves, is it too difficult to install GPS devices that will track a planes direction, altitude and climb rate so a pilot can be told to TURN???

Personally, what all this technology accomplishes is a dumbing-down of our populous and its ability to accomplish the simplest of tasks.. The more we rely on technology to do the simple tasks, the closer we come to being victimized by mistakes (programmers, hardware, software, Etc.). Good thing that Windows never crashes.

The FACT is that the more we have developed and relied on technology the safer flying has become.
