I was introduced to them by a good friend who owned a tavern up in Cambria years back. I made it my own and even have my own recipe that friends who come by always ask for - now if I could only get royalties...

In Vegas, I once ordered a Gold Caddilac... and they brought me one of those Margaritas instead... not even close!

Anyone here been to Poor Red's and Rich Opal's bar in El Dorado, CA?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Gold Cadillac
August 1981
Invented at Poor Red’s, in El Dorado, California, this sweet after-dinner drink made that establishment the largest consumer of Galliano in the world. It’s one of several Galliano-based cocktails that showed up in the magazine in the ’80s.

In a blender with the motor on high blend 5 ice cubes, crushed, 3 tablespoons heavy cream, and 1 ounce each of white crème de cacao and Galliano for 15 seconds, or until the mixture is smooth, and pour the mixture into a chilled saucer-shaped Champagne glass. Makes 1 drink.

GOLD CADILLAC
Drink rating:
5 / 5 (7 votes)

Ingredients:

•2 oz. Galliano
•1 oz. cream
•1 oz. white crème de cacao
Mixing instructions:

Mix all ingredients with ice in a blender for 10 seconds. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass. Also known as the Golden Cadillac which we describe as above with Triple Sec or Cointreau added

Instead of ice and creme, I use ice cream! A fun dessert drink like a grasshopper or mud slide.

A scoop of vanilla ice cream, 1 oz Galliano and 2 oz. creme de cacao... in a blender, like a milk shake.

Terrible waste of good tequila and, especially, gran marnier.

And...yes David. Lived in Sacramento and Poor Red's was always on the agenda. Besides the Golden Cadillacs they are famous for their great pork ribs. My favorite are the ribs on their lunch menu. They are the ones they didn't sell the night before and the portions usually exceptionally large, the American way.

Yah, via a marriage I was 'related' to Opal... (mother-in-law's mother) before she died... Nice folks up there... My relative lived in Diamond Springs. Went to Red & Opal's bar a lot in 1990-1995 when ever I visited. The two glasses thing was unique for serving the gold caddilac, too.

I am trying to remember - it was a funny name. He sold out back in the late 80's to go into the family business (cars) after his dad had a heart attack. It was downtown just a few paces off the main drag...

Best margie I ever had was at Pichilinque beach. Found out from the bartender that the Damiana made the difference. However, I have never been able to match that one. And I wasn't in love either. Just on a fishing trip with a bunch of guys.

You guys are driving me to drink!
I felt obligated to try the recipe, as I have never used soda in the drink
but it is pretty tasty. Used Don Julio SIlver, 1/2 grand marnier and 1/2 controy
7up and limes.
May have to have more than one as I hate to open a can of soda and only use a splash of it.
Better yet, I think I will just invite the neighbors over!
