Baja governor, Tijuana mayor to meet with Jerry Brown

SAN DIEGO — Among the guests at Jerry Brown’s inauguration as governor today in Sacramento are two of his close neighbors: Baja California Gov. Jose Guadalupe Osuna Millan and Tijuana Mayor Carlos Bustamante.

Both men are scheduled to meet with Brown this afternoon before returning to Baja California. Accompanying them is Baja California’s tourism secretary, Juan Tintos.

Tintos said the plan is to pledge collaboration on such issues as health, agriculture and the environment, thus extending an bilateral agreement that has been in place under Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger.

The two states have been collaborating successfully in recent years, Tintos said. California extended assistance to Baja California following the 7.2-magnitude quake that hit Mexicali on Easter Sunday. And Baja California’s Attorney General, Rommel Moreno Manjarrez, worked closely with Brown during his tenure as California Attorney General.

“There are many reasons why we want this bi-national relationship,” Tintos said.
