Default La Paz journey

http://www.vrbo.com/157133

Anyone familiar with this place?
A bit pricey for us for a multi-week starting in June stay right now but I am going to narrow things down soon.

It seems she will but it's the whole camping thing vs. having a kitchen since we have food allergies, place to put my little boat while not fishing and being on the water, central location so we can get our feet under us discovering La Paz, shower and a toilet at night......a bed.....me not packing aaaalllllll that camping shit.
You know, the lazy old man life and being very comfortable thing.

Looks like a good deal to me for the money! La Paz is one of the best spots in Baja for just about anything you want to do. A wonderful home base for exploring the outskirts of that region. Lots of stuff to see surrounding La Paz!!

Of course Legz would offer....but me thinks since they prefer central La Paz that Kate's place might be more centrally located....she has nice steps up to the roof, an outside bano, pool, I'm sure she'd allow kitchen privileges.......

Leg's would even make her spare room available, really comfortable kind bed, but they'd probably want more privacy than the room with all the patter of little feet passing through in & out of the doggy door! Besides 2 out of 3 passersby would be stopping to give doggy & that might be annoying!

Soulpatch, Kate will most likely be jumping in here any moment & she has a lot more possible contacts in town for places that might be a little easier on your budget....her neighbor's friend's uncle's ex-wife's cousin might know of someplace not advertised online!

(Kate.....possibly D's place?? Or see if Monica knows of anything?? B's place might not be conventional enough??)

That place does look nice, good location & kid friendly....but it IS spendy! Depending on how often it's booked vs sitting empty, you MIGHT be able to negotiate with the owner for better price.

Here are the only other local rental sites that I know of....some in town & some further out....all the advertised sites will have higher vacation rental rates....put your negotiating hat on:

You may also check out these folks. Their suites have kitchenettes and they are located on the malecon. Although their current posted prices are a tad high, we stayed there last june and paid $90 for a suite. They also have an on-site restaurant for breakfast and lunch.

Legs forgets that nothing is on my roof but a tinaco, a propane tank, and maybe some dog poop. Nice view of the mountains and tops of the neighbors' houses, though! And "a lot more possible contacts" is kinda overstated. I have exactly three.

OMG, I can't get over the prices on these VRBO listings, and I didn't know there were that many rentals in the whole city. D's place is #325232 and says no pets. Don't you have a dog, Soulpatch? Also no offstreet parking, and onstreet isn't enough for a car and a boat. The one you posted looks like it would work out better. It's probably not far from my place, so I'll keep an eye out for it. Keep in mind that the closer to the Malecon, the noisier it will be.

B is coming in a few days, and I can ask whether she's planning to rent her place. Last time she seemed iffy. She doesn't even have onstreet parking, though. If you like, I could PM the contact info of a good agent who may know of something.

Yes, there are a few towards Centenario that look nice. Quiet, too. It's going to come down to money, parking and a safe place to crash, cook and get clean.
We save a lot of money when we travel by doing our own cooking.
I have no doubt there are lots of places sitting empty.
We will see how cash flow vs, non-cash flow appeals to people, within reason.
We like to get out and explore every day so being centrally located is not paramount.

This guy http://www.vrbo.com/198161 just got back to me and tax included for 14 nights he will do $980/US.
So for you all that are familiar with the area.....what say ye?
Looks pretty frickin' cool from my chair......

Love La Paz, but I would love Mulege more! Don't really know why. Just love that place. One can always visit La Paz now and then.

The contrast between the two places is staggering. One is a mid-sized city with tons of restaurants, department stores, supermarkets, museums, a university, an international airport, and the other is a quaint little village. Different strokes, I'd say.

Mulege is not on our horizon, beautiful as it is.
Just a little to "country" for us to raise what will be our then 8 year old twins. We like the thought of having an international airport available to us and also the ferry to the mainland, among other things that an actual city has available as amenities.
These are other places I am bargaining on:

This one doesn't really blow my skirt up:

All prices as posted so far on the advertisements are negotiable.
We'll see how it works out.

I've never looked at VRBO before. Except for the one place that shows the view of the bay in front, I don't see where the ads tell you which part of town or the neighborhood the places are in. Are the locations in there somewhere? La Paz is a big place.

1 I THINK this is located right on Hwy, at the La Paz end just before Centenario. It's behind a new strip mall that's only housing a coffee shop so far. I've seen listings for the homes, but I haven't been through them. Might be some hwy noise....5 min to airport, but more like 15-20 to town. The great thing about this place would be garage parking for security for your boat when you don't take it with. I tried calling the La Paz number to confirm it's the location I think it is....no answer. If the guy's name is Robert, then it is the location I think it is (Kate & I met him in the pool store a few months ago)

2 This casita is in Lomas del Centenario....open yard space without great security for your boat if you take off for the day without it. No pool. Did you see the place about half way down the ad "CLICK HERE - Pictures of the Casa and Area"?? It shows more pics to show you yard space & adjacent casa. Close to Bajabass, Dusty & longlegs

3 This is at Kate/Balandra/Tecolote end of town (as opposed to Centenario end) up the hill from the Palmira Marina. Nice places, but kids might not like it as well as free-standing house....less room to run around & probably have to be quieter. Depending on what floor, PITB with the dog. Close to Kate

DING!!!!! I keep forgetting that Campestre Marantha does have a 2-bdrm bungalow at the back end of the RV park. Dra/Mrs Bajabass & her father stayed there & if memory serves me, they got it for $40-50 a night. If you watch the video, towards the end is a video by fixtrauma of Baja Nomad & it shows the inside of the 2 bdrm unit. Iflyfish & bajajudy have used the RV facilities & there is info about it on BN. Because there is always somebody around there, I'd be comfortable leaving the boat there when you weren't using it.

http://maranathaministriesinmexico.o...tha-campground

I think there's actually a lot more information about Campestre Marantha on Nomad than I could find on the internet.

Thank you very much!
#1 may be out of our price range but it is very roomy and the pool would be cool! We'll see. If it is subject to lots of noise then I am out.

#2 looks very cool and I can put multiple locks on my boat and trailer. Plus the owner has offered an excellent rate to me. That is money I can spend elsewhere and it being close to people I want to spend some time getting to know is a significant factor.
I would probably end up buying an air mattress for my kids but they state there is a guest bed type thing and kids are much more amenable to sleeping surfaces that aren't what I consider ideal.

#3 Well, that would be a fallback position and is just part of me keeping my options open.

Marantha looks cool but would be about the same price as #2 and the views and space around #dos look pretty cool.

Bottom line is this: My wife's first experience in La Paz has to be a good one.....if you catch my not so subtle drift.
