02/28/11 US law enforcement officials have decided to honor the memory of Special Agent Jaime Zapata, a US ICE agent who was shot to death earlier this month in Mexico, and Special Agent Victor Avila, who was wounded in the same incident, by initiating a series of raids known as Operation Fallen Hero.* These*

If you know anybody working in LE, especially those working in drug enforcement as members of my own family do, you would know that they are extremely busy these days. My son-in-law works very long hours, often not getting home until long after dark and yet he is out the door again before sunup. Many of his "days off" are spent on duty when he is called in to help serve warrants like on special ops such as this.
When one of their own falls they respond to send a strong message that LE will not bend or cower in fear. Maybe that is what cops south of the border should have been doing all along... ![]()

Sorry if i stepped on anyones toes, but to me it does not look like they are doing enough. the war on drugs in the states for too many years has ben a miserable failure.

Don't disagree with your assessment that the war on drugs is a failure. But, I cannot think that the "tit for tat" that this article describes, helps the image of those in law enforcement. I gotta throw in with J.P. on this. Anyone that is not catatonic would have to wonder, "why now"? if not why not before.

Just saw something by Dmitri Orlov What did Churchill say; you can count on Yanks to do the right thing...after they've tried everything else?
We will screw around in denial until the unimaginable event horizon, then release all prisoners willy-nilly as we are unable to maintain the current system. |

The drug war could be over in a month...The government knows the location of every high ranking cartel member as well as their henchmen. Don't kid yourself. They do know! The government needs to put together platoons of highly trained soldiers reinforced by helicopter gunships and in one coordinated swoop go in a kill every last person at each of the locations. Save your breath, I already know... El is crazy...

What if, starting next month, Mexico closed to tourism. Refused to allow any foreigner to land at the airport. Refused to allow cruise ships to dock. Let no one cross the border by land unless they were documented Mexicans or documented foreign residents of Mexico. Just saying that similar to the US war on drugs, that is an abject failure, but supports millions of people that are directly and indirectly compensated by its existence, to suddenly close down the cartels would be a huge economic shock to Mexico. |

It appears to me that the law enforcement should start in the middle of the chain and work their way up instead of going for the street pedlers and users. you arent going to have any sucess until you dry up the money.Just maybe that would show the masses how corrupt their goverment really is. Ouit this Nickel and Dime crap and go to the top..

Show of hands! How many think that we can somehow eradicate the thirst for drugs in the US?
Case closed. You can do anything you can imagine. Nuke the cartels for that matter. Simple fact is that there is a huge demand for drugs. A vacuum does not exist for very long. Simple answer, legalize or decriminalize certain drugs. Brings me to the situation of medical marijuana, especially in CA. If anyone reading this thinks that it's difficult to get a card legalizing your purchase, you need to do more research. Maybe it's a baby step toward a more rational view of drugs, in general. One thing I did note is that there is now a nascent movement to tax the sale of medical marijuana. So be it. A baby step. |
