Default www.BAJA-WEB.com anyone know about it ?

I found this resource Baja California Mexico Guide to Travel, Business, Getaways and Timeshares

I can't figure out if it is current- some of the stories seem old and noe of the info is dated.
Just wondering if anyone knows if it is a reliable source for baja info.

I used that as one of the sites I looked at when first considering the move to Baja. My general impression is that they have not updated the site in quite some time...

The founder was Jens Kolbowski (pronounced: Yens) 'El Aleman', a German fellow who passed a way some years ago... The web site is kept online and maintained by my web host Dick Van Bree (http://www.BajaLinks.com).

Another great Baja info site whose founder has died is http://www.BajaExpo.com by Carlos Fiesta (Chuck Chambers)... Both Carlos and Jens were great fans of Baja and I am fortunate to have known them both... See them both at my Viva Baja #4 party in 2003: http://vivabaja.com/vivabaja4

I was digging around in there and found something that was updated in 2010. Forget what it was. The live-cams at the border seem to be dead.

It does seem that "maintaining the site" really means keeping it live to collect revenue from paid advertisers. As Dennis mentions, there are a host of dead links, and links to domain providers. Really doesn't seem to be relevant in this time.

Thanks for the great replies !

That is the impression I got also- usually the case when all the dates on stories go missing but still this site had some very nicely detailed accounts and tips.
Specifically the FM visa process was described well. My question there is have the numbers changed but I think I can find that on some of the other sites you guys have mentioned.

Thanks again

Question Jens Kolbowski 'El Aleman'

I know Jens from 1979. We made a sailing trip from Santa Barbara down to the Baya to San Quintine. It was a real advanture. I did not speak with him later, as I went back to Germany. Does anyone know what he did in the 80s - until he passed a way? Does anyone know Lilo (his friend in Santa Barbara). What happend with the ship Radiant?

I will show this to the web host of Baja-Web and let you know if he has anything. Here is a photo of Jens in Feb. 2003 at my Viva Baja #4 party....

Part of an email today from a friend who hosted Jens' web site:

Jens sold the ship. In the 80's he basically did a lot of sailing, living on the boat
And doing work repairing radios along the costal area in Calif.
Money from the boat sale kept Jens going for a while.

I stumbled across his baja-web site and there was a picture of Jens in Germany,
talking on his ham Radio set. Since I was also a Ham radio Operator I contacted him.
It was in the late 1990's that I met him and told Jens of my venture
into internet web site hosting.

He moved to Chula Vista - set up a mobile home in a park there..
Then set up a Hardware store in Mulege, at the entrance to town,
the store still exists but not in its original form.
Jens and Don Johnson became friends and Jens spent most of his time in Mulege.

Jens would get a pile of Satellite station schedules and drive them down to
Mulege every Month. He sold them to the many Americans living in that area -
that was most of his income.

After Jens died I took over and managed his Baja-web site. Of course being a massive effort I cannot keep it up and all those who sent news of of internet in Baja moved on a long time ago.

====================

In 2005 I was contacted by a fella called Christan Linke from Hamburg. wanted to come to the US and go to school and bunk in with Jens. He said Jens was his dear Uncle.
Unfortunately I had to tell him the Jens died of heart failure 6 months or so earlier.
the name Lilo is very familiar but I do not know where he is.
