After you come up with your avatar of choice, use an image editor like irfanview to crop and / or resize it to the maximum allowed avatar size for the forum (100x100 pixels). After that it's easy to upload it.

Just go to your User CP (top of the page) and then click on Edit Avatar under Settings and Options. Go to the bottom of that page and in the Custom Avatar section you can upload your new avatar.

Click on Save Changes when finished.
