I've read about all the kidnapping and extortion, and convincing arguments about why this happened now and not 20 years ago. The move against drug cartels 5 years ago is just a coincidence. {/sarcasm} |

Yep and the control over what comes in from Mexico has always been by the Mexican Mafia... it started back in the mid 60's when everyone found out "you" sell pot for real money..
Pot used to always come from Mexico .... but, the big money thing came a bit later and... took out the youngsters doing distribution with the "mind set" of the time... "Turn on, tune in drop out" which was going around at the time... and it wasn't "based on money" to start with... at least that is the way I remember it... that came later...late sixties .. with the addition of "coke"...

If they ever legalize pot we will quickly see a manufacturer/distributor break into the Dow Jones Ind Avg crowd...

Given the alternate source for pot, I have to believe that any legalization of same will have small effect on the cartels. Their bread and butter is found with much "harder" drugs.
And I do concur with Marty. The violence was not significant until the government decided to take their baseball bat to the hornets nest. At least I think that's what he meant??? |
