Hi,
I am a retired registered nurse living in Portland, OR. I love the NW -- the beauty, the summer weather and because my children and grandchildren live here. But after a while in one place, I start to get restless and want to experience something new. I have lived in Asia -- Hong Kong, Malaysia and Indonesia and traveled in Australia and Europe. But I have never been to Mexico. I have read several books on travel and living in Mexico. I have narrowed it down to Baja due to the proximity to the US. I am considering renting during the winter months in Rosarito or Ensenada. I want to live where it would be easy to study the language, to meet other expatriates and local people, and to get involved in the community. I would love to hear from others have made the move and may have suggestions to help me with my decision. Can't wait to hear from you. Jerri in Portland |

miagus,
i lived in l.a. almost 40 years, orig from ensenada, just returned, been here 2 years. it's like moving to a foreign country. still tripping, adjusting, sometimes it's not easy, places like l.a. have an established wordly pace, and i miss that. small-ish baja places like ensenada seem uneventful, at times too placid. what i do love is the food, the simple, home-spun food, tortillas, fish, beans, etc. and the simple, pure flavor of some of my new friendships. so, i join you in getting acclimated here. beneath the mercantile murmur of the curio drags, the pharmacies, liquor stores, there are the fun-loving, jovial kindred spirits who simply want to surrender to the sun, the wind or the good fishing day. also, with the entire word becoming more globalized, it almost does'nt matter where one lives. |
