Very unfortunate choice of words there.

Several mental detours until I finally was able to arrive at the actual meaning.

How about "noted", "tallied", "issued statistics indicating", etc...

Then there's the headline. A Mexican government official "announces" something on behalf of another government, but that is omitted from the headline.

Crappy job as usual, media.

Hey media has become "cut and paste"... ya, don't see the "reporters" who occupy the "chair on the evening news putting in time embedded with the troops... or just about anything... other than looking good and reading the news ..... as provided ...

I recall Peter Jennings ... how much time did he spend in the middle east... learning... 10 years... it does make a difference... too bad we don't see a new crop like the old one's...
