Default Canadian/Mexican La Paz Bound

Hello / Hola

Well my wife and I have (are) jumping in with both feet.

We are moving from Toronto to just outside La Paz.

Our home in Toronto is gone (officially the 28th of July).
Menaje will be stored for about 30 days and the road trip starts 1st week in September, with the intent to make it to our new home before the Sept.15 "PARTY"

I have been lurking here for sometime and figured that it was about time to say Hello.

It certainly is. I love Toronto! But it can be a wee bit cool in the winter. As Legz said, welcome to the neighborhood, let us know where you'll be living. Lots of Maple Leafs in our neighborhood!

Wow, very cool! I am excited for you.
We ran into many Canadians while staying in La Paz.

Is it not true, though, that the majority of Canadians that can be found in Baja are from Western Canada? That was always my experience over the years when meeting tourists in the Cabo region.

The folks back East always tended to head to Cancun and environs. Shorter flights.

It gets pretty cold all over Canada and a lot of folks are turned off by the Spring Break type towns...

Sorry for the late response;
Well BajaGringo sort of yes.

I will enlighten everybody when we are somewhat settled in but we had one heck of a time finding a moving company from the Eastern Side of Canada that would listen to me!!
They all wanted to ship via Veracruz or somewhere along th Texas Border.
We ended up getting 2 companies to make the move 1) from Toronto to San Diego 2) from San diego to La Paz (Mexican company)

Kinda supports the idea I mentioned. Not a lotta Eastern Canadians heading to Baja.

Glad to see that you really persisted. You won't regret it.

I did some contract work for a maquiladora up in the border area years ago and ran into the very same problem. They had customers along the eastern seaboard from Miami to Quebec and were spending a fortune in shipping. Did some research and their customs broker (who was in Mexico City) moved all the goods via truck across Mexico, boarded ship out of Veracruz sailing up to eastern ports and then trucked again to their final destination.

I convinced them to just cross them at Otay with a local customs broker and move them by the cheapest freight available to their final destination.

Quicker and much cheaper.

@ BajaGringo
That explains the "YOUR OUT OF YOUR MIND" responses from the big guys>>>

I called the United Van Line broker that is trucking to San Diego and asked about the Mexico City agent and his response so confirmed your comment.

I hope somebody fixes it I think there could me more from the east side making the move...

Geography seems to be a subject that people have lost interest in. I still get lots of people asking me how close I am to the the border with Guatemala...

Sooo...they're still doing the Menaje De Casa. There's been a rumor going around that they put a stop to it except for a few very specialized people.

Welcome to Baja and TalkBaja.
