ATF, Dept. of Justice supplied drug cartels with weapons

Findings from continuing investigations into the maverick Operation Fast and Furious reflects that the Alcohol Tobacco Firearms and Explosives and Department of Justice officials kept their personnel in Mexico and Mexican government officials in the dark about the program.

“Meanwhile, ATF officials in Mexico grew increasingly worried about the number of weapons recovered in Mexico that traced back to an an ongoing investigation out of ATF’s Phoenix Field Division,” a report released today states.

“Yet, when they raised those concerns, ATF senior leadership both in Phoenix and Washington, D.C. reassured them that the Phoenix investigation was under control. No one informed them about the details of Operation Fast and Furious. No one informed them that ATF was knowingly allowing guns to be sold to straw buyers and then transferred into Mexico,” the report states.

The staff report was prepared for U.S. Rep. Darrell E. Issa and U.S. Sen. Charles E. Grassley who have been investigating the operation.

The report shows that more than 100 weapons seized in Mexico have been traced to Operation Fast and Furious. These have been recovered in crime scenes and seizures in the states of Guerrero, Durango, Sonora, Chihuahua, Baja California, Michoacan, and Sinaloa.

Weapons traced to Operation Fast and Furious also have been recovered in Reynosa in the state of Tamaulipas.

Guns don't kill people.

It's the people who give guns to other people to kill people with while they're doing their jobs oblivious to the consequences who kill people.
