Default Hola from Ensenada

I'm a little slow in as much as I just found this forum. I used to read and not very often posted on BN until all the Keyboard Rambo's showed up.

I see by reading here that this forum is much more laid back and informative and no bashing and one-ups-men-ship. A very pleasant change and I look forward to reading here daily.

Originally from San Diego, I have over 40 years in Baja and mainland Mexico as a Yacht Captain. I am now retired and living in Ensenada ( 10 years) and married to a local (actually she from Lazaro Cardenas, Michoacan).for the last 8 years.

I look forward to interacting with all of you here.

Ron

Hi Ron,

Welcome to the forum!

I know where that town is. Right on the border of Guerrero/Michoacan on the Rio Balsa.

Went surfing out in front of the petrochemical plant there once. There used to be what was probably the best surf spot in the world just south of there at Petacalco before the dam wrecked it. Made the cover, and then it died.

Thank you all for the warm welcome and great to hear from old friends. I feel like Ron came lately....

The Water fixer is a great unit.... as Terry pointed out, it uses enough power for a 25 watt UV light bulb and it wastes no water. Most all the larger boats and yachts have them on board even if they have watermakers. You can safely drink the water from almost anywhere.

Once again, thank you for the warm welcome.

I've been there a couple of times to meet family and only went to the beach once. From what I've learned it used to be a major Port once, similar to Manzanillo but always had dredging problems as a result of the large surf.

This water system is almost free, and you can grow it in your yard........

It's a great inexpensive unit and no maintenance other than changing two filters. I have mine plumbed from the street so it takes care of the entire house.

Glad to hear it's working out for you guys.

Welcome to the Forum,

I drove down to Ensenada two weeks ago and it was the first visit in almost 20 years. The tourist zone is pretty much the same but beyond that I was AMAZED. Avenida Reforma used to be out in the country and now it is like driving down a major shopping street in LA.

I knew my favorite restaurants like El Rey Sol and El Cid, along with several taco stands were still there, but am blown away by the growth. It is still a wonderful place though and I could not have enjoyed my visit more.

Maybe just a bit of a hijack, TravelPro. But, fundamentally, Ensenada has grown up. And the interesting thing is that despite the major drop off in tourism, they appear to have a self-sustaining economy. Just hang around WalMart and see how many folks speak English. Not many.

That said, can anyone provide me with a link to the UV water thingy? I clicked on the link that Teniente provided and it just would not load for me.

RV's, boats and single point use could probably use the model 500.

I have a model 1000 for whole house use, with a GE whole house sediment filter before the UV unit to filter out the big chunks.

Thanks, my friend, Looks really good.

Was just wondering, given the infrasructure in and about Ensenada, just how "dangerous" drinking tap water would be.

Just curious. Seems to me that the system you have finalizes the deal.

Teniente, if it's on the site, I missed it....what's bulb life & filter life?? I found replacement parts costs, but not life expectancy.
