Default Rosetta stone

I searched but didn't see a reference.
Have any of you used this program and, if so, was it worth the money or is it better to just listen and practice locally?
Lotta money for one of these sets.

I know 2 who have used it, one to learn Spanish and the other Portuguese. One swears by it and the other sold it at their next garage sale for $25.

Split decision = probably little/no help...

Hmmmmmmmmmmmm, the SP's must STILL be harboring thoughts of Baja....or is there a large Spanish-speaking population in So Carolina that I hadn't heard about?

Yeah, Mexico is in my blood..... it's just the where that is the hard part.
To quote my wife loosely, I followed her dream and she wants to follow mine......
However! The path isn't completely illuminated for us yet!

I've not used it, but know people who have. My sense is that it is similar to any self learning tool. If you are committed and self disciplined it can be helpful. No substitute for immersion though.

I'd treat it like execise equipment, shop for it "previously owned" such that if you find you don't use it every day, you have minimized your investement.

I have a friend who has it, but he's stuck on his pronunciation. The system requires an acceptable pronunciation of a sentence before advancing to the next section, and no matter how he says the words, the program doesn't like it. So, he will sell it cheap. I will probably get some sort of computer-based learning tool, used, like Dusty suggested above, and try it out. But, not Rosetta, and not at new retail.

Well, if you don't buy it, I am a big fan of cheap.
Feel free to put me in touch!

Be careful buying "used" versions of RS. They restrict it to loading on only two PC's. Had to replace a hard drive on my laptop and lost that license. Was a big deal to get them to allow me to load it back on the new drive. A used version may not be able to load on your machine.
It's like said above, if you're committed to it, it will work however the analogy to exercise equipment is accurate, you can't just spend the money and expect to speak Spanish.

I hear what you're saying.
Think I will save my pennies. There are a million resources available to me in San Diego.

SP, sorry, what with holiday travel I just saw this. I'll ask them if they want to sell, and clarify how many times they've loaded it per the helpful comments above.

They're in La Mesa, close to you, I think?

Regards.

Pretty good deal at well over 90% off regular price.
Sale ends tonight for any that are interested.

I had signed up for a free sample and they just sent me an email from LiveMocha.com
for the sale.

When I first went to the site I negotiated online for extra time on my free sample and they just gave it to me without questions.

Maybe bounce around their website Language Learning with Livemocha | Learn a Language Online - Free! and send them an inquiry if it isn't obvious?
Shoot, maybe it was just for me! I can't open it anymore without it logging me in so I can't get back to the page it was on.
