Since this is the thread where folks suggest new sections, how about one on doctors and dentists and hospitals and such?

Medical tourism is the new buzz phrase here in the northern part of the peninsula. Be kinda interesting to see what the consumers have to say.

imho Medical tourism is going to be bigger for TJ/Rosarito/Ensenada than the pool of qualified service providers. I think a condo building near me in Rosarito is converting from short-term rentals to being used for that insome way. Whatever works to keep th ebuildings full and rents higher. I do hope patients will do their due diligence first and not just respond to Reader ads. Then again, the lack of ambulance chasing lawyers in Mexico is a plus for that, huh?

With Medical Tourism growing the recommendations posted for local medical services will be helpful. I have a great Rosarito Beach dentist that friends from Vegas make the drive here for. (Of course flossing would have been their best option to cheaper dental care, huh?)

What I like about doctors down here is that when you find a good one and form a good relationship, they truly become like extended family. You get their home number, their cell number and they often make house calls when needed. My doc down here in San Quintin has become a close, personal friend. You can't put a price tag on that...

The hard part is finding one. Same with vets down here. The good ones stay with their animals 24/7. I had a lab cut an artery under his tongue. He grabbed a sharp bone fromt he beach on a late night walk. He was bleeding like crazy fromth emouth and started getting shocky. He would have bled out had our vet not answered his phone and been in his office at 11pm. It took both of us to lift Guero (150 pounds) onto the operting table and I assisted with surgery. How cool is that? Try that at Banfield. :)

We have a local vet that sounds similar to yours. Great guy and we also have his cell number for emergencies. Right now we are having to deal with the process of beginning to plan when we will have to put down Dakota. She is nearly 16 years old and has been with me since she was just a tiny pup. I know our vet will come provide the service out here at the house so we can have her grave prepared.

It's really a very tough time right now but we are reaching that day very soon.

Sorry to hear about Dakota. 16 years is wonderful though. We have always waited a bit "too long" to put our dogs down - a little selfish on our part. When they can't walk, or control their bladder- it's time. Our vet comes to the house for that too, which made it easier on everyone (especially the dog). It is still devasting or we wouldn't be good dog owners. It never gets easier to put a friend down, but knowing you gave the animal a long happy full life is the best consolation. Every dog should be so lucky and no one lives forever.

The last day for our 16 year old Lab Duke, I carried him out to the water and we sat and enjoyed the view. Then I carried him home and fed him a nice steak dinner before the vet came.

Dakota is still mobile and even joins us on occasion down at the beach. She digs up clams and even wanders a bit out into the water but the arthritis is slowly taking over, causing her to fall. Even with all the medication she is showing pain at times. My vet keeps assuring me that Dakota will let us know when she is ready and to listen to her and not our hearts.

It's still a very, very difficult decision to make as she has been such a huge part of our lives and for so long. Olivia helped me pick her out of the litter nearly 16 years ago and my last day with Olivia was spent on the beach with Dakota. more than 8 years ago.

So many emotions right now...

Don't worry about things you cannot control. Just keep enjoying Dakota. I felt guilty when the vet told us we had waited too long. Your vet knows best for Dakota. Try to take your mind off it.
