Boy, looks like things are really changing.....
Wonder what my process will be by the time I am ready to retire in December.

Hey SP, Happy New Year!

Are these changes making it more or less likely that you'll be able to retire in Baja?

Or, at all?

The changes look quite welcome.
Actually, if I don't retire before the end of this year I may end up losing some benefits post retirement.... they can't take them away once I have them.... thank god for CalPers. One of the few smart moves I made as a young man.

Baja for retirement isn't on our horizon now.......
However, San Pancho, Jaltembo,.... that region? We are heading down in July and, hopefully, permanently next November or December.
Nothing here to keep us in SoCal. Neither of us will weep when we depart.
And, this time, there is no hesitancy for my wife.... which is really what matters to me and my kids.
She wants a new paradigm and we have spent parts of a few summers on different coasts of the mainland and she likes what the mainland has to offer us.
This part of the experiment is over.

However, San Pancho,
WOW....this place didn't even exist last time I was there. Spent a night camping on the beach at Punta Mita and the only thing there was an old broken down palapa. How things have changed.

Frank....if you want to learn about the bugs I mentioned a while back....head up to San Blas. Very buggy...but nice.

Yeah, spent a few late summers in the Yucatan and one in Zihua.
Definitely a few bugs!

I'm glad to hear that things are working out for you guys! I hope things continue to be this upbeat!

We rented homes in Sayulita several winters in a row, and really like the place, but man, is it ever discovered! I was in the line-up before I could see the beach, and still wasn't the first guy out. By 0830 there were 40 people, about half of whom were safe to be downstream from, in the water and more coming. And, it was about 3 feet with fair form.

Too many folks for me.

Several of the adjacent communities used to be cheaper, but they all, San Pancho included, seem to have more or less stabilized at about the same prices as Sayulita.

On our first visit, the Punta Mita road was closed because some presidents brother was planning a huge development. There was a bar right at the end of the road, and it was a couple of mile hike out to the point. Now it's all built up.

In any case, it will be an adventure and it will go well for you.

Enjoy!

Thanks,
Much appreciated.
I lived in Malibu in the early to mid '90's and a few other places that had lineups stuffed with people. But, if you weren't afraid to walk a few minutes then there were plenty of places you could have a mellow session. Hopefully those places still exist a bit in that region.
I guess we are just up for an adventure and a bit of a life atypical.... I think we would both be suicidal if we had to stay much longer in a place we can't even lie to ourselves about anymore.... we have both, even at our young ages, witnessed so much deterioration of the quality of life here.
Done.

OK, maybe someone else should start a new "New Immigration Status" thread.
I did see some interesting stuff on a board out of the Yucatan how when renewals are up for current holders of different FMs that statuses will change.
Also, renewals could be every 4 years now?
Sounds like it will only get easier, maybe a bit Pollyanna-ish of me, for us.
Always the optimist... cynically or not.
