Default Rx while traveling - how?

I have a few meds I need while traveling for migraines and thyroid. I generally get them filled at Costco so I am wondering is it going to be any issue to have them filled at the Costco in Ensenada because it is across the border?

Thank you,
Gari

Just bring the prescription with you and most pharmacies should have no problem in helping you...

I don't have the Rx, the pharmacy does but I will talk to them about getting a hard copy. I do not get copies of the Rx anymore and have not for years, rather here they just do a dance via fax between the Dr.'s office and the pharmacy (unless it is for narcotics and then you do have to get a hard copy and walk it into the pharmacy). Believe it or not, since this is how business is done mostly, it is a pain in the butt to try to get hard copies of all your Rx from your different Dr.s and tends to be prone to errors.

We have had very little problems bringing the current rx pill bottle into COSTCO or a smaller pharmacy for refills.

Maybe your Dr's office can e-mail you the RX. Also, next to, or in some Baja pharmacies there is a Dr's office that can write you a Mexican RX for a small price .

Ok, will give this a try and bring enough of a supply that I am not running out of anything needed (especially that migraine stuff) anytime soon. I figured it should be easy once I get the hang of it but I really have to be careful with the headache stuff as it totally lays me out.

It all depends on what your meds are , and I don't think a call to a Mexican pharmacy from a US doc is going to do you much good. They really don't work together, and, in fact, traditionally don't get along too well. The US medical establishment kind of looks down their nose at their Mexican counterpart, and the Mexicans know that, only too well.

Would you mind telling us what you're taking?

One more thing......the question still remains as to availability of your particular medications here. These things are rarely universal, so you may want to look into generics or substitutes.

We have had Baja pharmacies fill Rx written by our US Doctors and sent to us as an e-mail attachment........no problem

I am going to try to talk to my Pharmacy today as I was hoping since I fill mine through Costco and there is one there, this might make it all easier PLUS I hope to spend about 4 - 6 weeks traveling up the west coast of the US with the kids so we should be able to find Costco's along the way. The meds I am taking are Levothyroxine (for thyroid) and the oral generic versions of imitrex (for migraines). Neither are all that expensive now but I also worry about traveling with like a 3 month supply over the boarder. Are there issues with taking Rx across.

Thank you,
Gari

Are you taking into account that probably most medications that require a scrip in the US don't require one here?
If you are on serious , as in narcotic, for example] meds, you won't be getting it here without a real prescription from a real Mexican doctor.
Terry....have you ever seen a written scrip for serious meds from a Mexican doctor? I'll bet you haven't. They're a triplicate form which the doctor actually has to pay to write.

Another issue is product availability. Everything up there is not available down here. One should look into that before relying on the convenient, "one big world" concept.

Denns........never had a triplicate script in Baja......COSTCO requested a script to fill an Rx for Lyn, we obtained it from her US doctor by e-mail and COSTCO accepted it without a problem.

I agree with you regarding the meds......usually walk into a local pharmacy and either ask or show them the container and walk out with the meds. Have not run into unavailability problems....yet. .

Most of Mexico has been on a "heal thyself" policy forever. Most, by population, can't afford to rely on a doctor for all their needs, so they are allowed to buy, without scrip, medications at a pharmacy. There isn't a mother to be found who can't give injections and syringes are sold at grocery stores.
It's only a recent development, probably due to US tourists depleting supplys, as well as physicians learning from US style greed, that a scrip is required for antibiotics, and even that isn't written in stone. No records are kept of those notes.....and that's all they are, notes. The pharmacy gives them back to the customer.

There are pharmacies down here that are connected with a physician in house and/or next door. They help many travelers down here to get through many of their Rx problems while on the road...
