Default Tiznar - Word of the Day

Tiznar

Significado
to blacken (literally or figuratively)

Ejemplo
Si los recipientes de cocina se tiznan por el humo de la llama, la combustión no está siendo buena.

Traduccion
If the kitchen containers become black from the smoke of the flame, the combustion isn't good.

Today's lesson

Using the verb 'llevar'

Once upon a time, the Spanish verb llevar meant primarily to carry a heavy burden. However, it has become one of the most flexible verbs in the language, used not only in discussing what a person carries, but also what a person wears, has, does, tolerates or moves.

Is this a new member or just a new forum?
If it's a new member, welcome to TalkBaja.

My cleaning lady, Maria, surprised me with a Spanglish word the other day. She saw me holding a sparrow that had knocked itself out on a plate glass window and asked if that was a "birdito."
That's as close as Maria will ever come to saying anything in English.

The birdito came to and flew away.

Friends from Spain tell me the same thing is happening along the border areas of Europe. We'll probably all end up speaking a single language one day.
