Leatherjacket Soldier (Soldado de Cuera is the story of Don Fernando Rivera y Moncada, a true Mexican hero.

Rivera enlisted as a common soldier in the unique branch of Spanish cavalry. All were born in New Spain and had their own set of rules and regulations separate from the Spanish Army.

He was sent to Loreto after five years of service and in the next few years served well and caught the attention of the Jesuits. Much to everyone's surprise, when the military commandant of the California's died, Don Fernando was promoted from the rank of Sergeant to Captain and military commandant of the Californias - equal to a modern colonel.

The remainder of his story is equally amazing and I hope I've caught the essence of the man and the times in which he lived and served. I'm not going to spoil things by tell you of the ending.

I honestly believe this man's life is something anyone living in Mexico would wish to know about. He was a hero that every Mexican can be proud of.

Anyhow - my publisher has editors so, what I'm looking for, is input as to how the novel works for you and does it bring the history to life?
