Yes, thanks for the reply. That is one idea....you say you had a couple? Also, this is one of the most expensive places..........$546 per month. I was thinking more of storing it on private land some where for a great deal less. Unfortunately, I am not made of money...........lol. But thanks.

To the best of my knowledge, this is the only secure storage facility in the immediate La Paz area with covered areas:
http://www.lapazstorage.com/ Storing it in someone's yard, you're not likely to find covered storage, plus that opens up a wide range of security issues. |

Hi Legs..thanks for the contact...I will check it out. Storing it in someones yard who is a decent person, and that may also have some of their own toys, would not really open a new security issue. Plus, I dont need coverage, as it is already covered. Maybe someone has some space?? Thanks.

Something tells me that you're still thinking with your Canada climate/weather conditions mentality rather than the realities of the La Paz area. The sun is much stronger here & it will eat through/sun rot most conventional boat covers, not to mention sun damage to tires sitting unprotected out in the full sun. Have you taken hurricane season onto consideration? For this area, it's from June 1 through November 30. A boat sitting out in the open on a trailer can become air-born during a hurricane.
Then, too, boats sitting inside an unsecured or lightly secured perimeter wall have been known to have the motor stolen & other items removed from the boat.....as well as gate locks being cut & the entire rig simply being towed off by bad guys. Don't minimize the potential risks.....think smart to protect your investment! I assume that there's not enough space at the "private property owned by a Mexican citizen" where you're going to have your trailer/RV, to accommodate your boat as well? From a purely practical standpoint, I strongly recommend you insure all your vehicles....auto/trailer/motorcycle/boat & trailer. I'm not a boat owner, but I've read enough posts on various Baja forums over the years to say that there are common restrictions on boat insurance; such as, it may only in effect while being trailered by the companion tow vehicle.....so I'd recommend that you talk with a Mexican insurance provider to get the factual specifics. It's also my understanding the boats under a certain length no longer require a Temporary Import Permit (TIP) for Baja, but boats exceeding a certain length do. Beyond that, I don't know the specifics; maybe some knowledgeable "boat people" here could address the current specifics. |
