Is it permissible (legal) to transport liquid oxygen into Baja for personnel use ?

"Liquid oxygen is sometimes combined with a fuel source, like carbon, to create an explosive. However, this is rare because of the high flammability of liquid oxygen, which leads to accidents."

This is a first, but I'Il make a guess...........NO. Not without permits.

What would you use it for down here?

Thanks Dennis,

I would use it strictly for breathing (O2). My next question are there any sources for this product in San Felipe ?

Oh. Well, that's reasonable. Shouldn't need a permit for that.
Don't know if you need it all the time, but if not, just slip on the mask when you go across.
Let us know how this works and maybe we can use the technique for bringing down BIG Sony Theatre Systems without paying duty.

[that's a joke]

I seriously doubt it in San Felipe.....possibly in Mexicali or Calexico...........maybe in Ensenada. I would ask at a welding supply shop or maybe a chemistry department at a local (Baja) college

I took mine, just in case.. never got stopped. Did not take big machine, just the 3 hour tanks. I would suspect there are medical supply stores, at least in ensenada.

There is a location on Aqua Caliente Blvd. in TJ that refills tanks. I use them sometimes to refill my CO2 tank for our beverage system. I say "sometimes" because they are twice the price of AirGas in San Diego.

seems some things are much cheaper in Baja compared to San Diego, while others are much more costly.

I don't think you mean "liquid" oxygen. Those portable breathing tanks contain "compressed" oxygen. Shouldn't be a problem pringing them down or getting them filled in larger cities.

My provider has been ordered to deliver liquid oxygen. I assume that is what I'm getting.
I am familiar with concentrators and compressed gas.
Thanks to all for your responses.

How do you keep it colder than -297ºF?

NASA used it when we launched rockets.... burns with the liquid hydrogen!

From wiki...
Liquid oxygen has a pale blue color and is strongly paramagnetic; it can be suspended between the poles of a powerful horseshoe magnet.[1] Liquid oxygen has a density of 1.141 g/cm3 (1.141 kg/L) and is cryogenic with a freezing point of 50.5 K (−368.77 °F, −222.65 °C) and a boiling point of 90.19 K (−297.33 °F, −182.96 °C) at 101.325 kPa (760 mmHg).

Liquid oxygen has an expansion ratio of 1:861 under 1 standard atmosphere (100 kPa) and 20 °C (68 °F),[2][3] and because of this, it is used in some commercial and military aircraft as transportable source of breathing oxygen.

Because of its cryogenic nature, liquid oxygen can cause the materials it touches to become extremely brittle. Liquid oxygen is also a very powerful oxidizing agent: organic materials will burn rapidly and energetically in liquid oxygen. Further, if soaked in liquid oxygen, some materials such as coal briquettes, carbon black, etc., can detonate unpredictably from sources of ignition such as flames, sparks or impact from light blows. Petrochemicals, including asphalt, often exhibit this behavior.
