Default Parker

Hello Talk Baja community.
My name is Parker and I am an International English Language and Culture Teacher, living overseas in the tiny former soviet country of Georgia. I am from San Diego, California and have done some overseas traveling. No matter how large the world or how awesome each destination has been, I have always felt the heart-felt pull of Baja. I grew up in small towns in New Mexico and spoke Spanish or more correctly "Spanglish"

Once I have completed my teaching assignment here in Europe, I will return to SD and begin making arrangements to find my place across the border.
I am glad to have found this site.

I Googled Russian Taco. You don't, I think, want to know what it is.

Thanks for such a warm welcome. "Welcome back to Baja- your mind is already here and your body is on the way." This is my new favorite quote and has become my mantra...ha ha ha
I have not found any Mexican food in Georgia, as such. I have adapted bits of local "cuisine" and it's not Mexican but it helps me through my cravings. There is a sort of mashed bean in bread pastry thing that is called lobiani (lobio means beans) and a locally made traditiontal cheese as well as a sour cream product called "matsoni" and although there is no salsa, we do have a hot sauce in a bottle a bit like tobasco. So, lobiani, hot out of the clay oven, slathered with our sour cream and hot sauce drizzled across the top. Served with fresh kitri (cucumber) and pamadori (tomato) and sprinkled with the fresh green herbs that grow in our yard and Taco Doritos on the side makes me feel like I am eating kartuli-mexican (sort of).
Although home-made Vodka and village wine are the dominate drinks, we do have a very nice shavi ludi (black beer) and there is a store across the river on ther other side of the bridge that sells Tequilla. As all good Americans, myself and two Peace Corp friends celebrated cinco de mayo at my flat. What a blast! Margaritas were nice, fresh made and Georgian strong!

Great post... wonderful to hear from the other side of the world! I hope Georgia remains peaceful and you come home safe so you can enjoy real Mexican food, once again!

Talking Re: Parker

Thanks, me too. So far there are no serious threats or safety issues. As we approach elections in October, that may change my present status. Situated between Turkey and Russia...??? Last year the elections ran peaceful and according to the USA and the UN, honestly. Political "rallies" can become violent riots in these volatile times in developing countries.

We only had Russian tanks on our side of the border for a couple of hours last year.
