This year for the first time I am seeing Pitaya's on my Organ Pipe Cactus (pitaya dulce), and my Dagger Cactus (Pitaya Agria) here in San Diego. I thought it was too cool here to have them, but this year there are some. Kind of small, hope they get bigger but I'm looking forward to them!

maybe the summer was hotter that you thought- or at least the cactus thought so. Not many Santa Ana events this year.

I've had a chance to sample both Pitayas now. Pitaya Dulce from the organ pipe is indeed sweeter than Pitaya Agria from the dagger cactus, but both are very sweet. Both are much sweeter than Cactus Pear or Tuna (not sure of spelling in spanish) that grow well around here.
