Default Whale Watching

We really enjoyed the whales at Scammons Lagoon 2 yrs. ago and would like to go again however I would prefer for someone else to do the driving so I could enjoy the scenery more on the way down & back. Does anyone know of a first class tour company that is in the Rosarito Beach area and offers whale watching tours. I am looking for one that uses a large 40 passenger bus, not a small 10-12 passenger van.

There's a group that goes from Ensenada every year there's a lady named Tillie Foster that puts it together she works out of the San Nichols Hotel in Ensenada.

Be sure you wear a red hat so you can blend in.......lol

If you decide to go on your own, let me know. I can recommend an excellent guide that does trip packages and is a whale researcher at scammons.

I tried to contact the hotel but their web site was in Spanish. Does Tillie work there? Do you know how I can contact her?

Tillie is great people... She has been at the Hotel San Nicolas for many years providing guest services and promoting the hotel... She attended all of my Viva Baja parties and provided the grand door prize, from the hotel.

Here she is at my Viva Baja 4 event in 2003:

Viva Baja 3, in 2002:

Viva Baja 2, in 2001:

Viva Baja 1, in 2000:

I contacted Tillie via email. Apparently she is going through some health issues and is not sure if she will have a whale watching trip this winter.

You might contact Shari Bondy of Whale Magic Tours who has guided us for several years:

The Whale Magic Tours is an excellent page on her web site!

For sure, Shari is a regular poster on Baja Nomad, runs a bed & breakfast at Bahia Asuncion, and is a whale expert having worked on them on Scammon's Lagoon (Laguna Ojo de Liebre) before living full time in Baja. Her web site is bahiaasuncion.com - Home

Possibly you could ride the ABC Bus to San Ignacio and hook up with a tour at the Rice And Beans the buses are nice and run on a pretty tight Schedule and it would probable be less expensive than a tour.

They must have a terminal in Rosarita go to the terminal and check schedules
You might think about Guerrero Negro. there's a hotel there that schedules tours out of it the name of the place escapes me at the moment, but I have stayed there in the past and know they do Whale watching tours out of there. Maybe someone else will chime inn that knows more.

We have stayed at Los Caracoles and taken the whale watching trip thru them. Also Cowboy Hotel offers the same. Mainly I was looking for a comfortable ride from Rosarito to the hotel where I would stay and take their whale watching tour. I will explore ABC and see what their buses & schedule look like. Thanks

Contact Shari and see what she suggests.

You could take the bus to Guerrero Negro, stay at the Cowboy. The Cowboy is Shari's base of operations. I'm sure you can find a ride to the lagoon with other people in her group.
