Any more info or background on your post? The cash that comes back south from drug sales is hard to spend and deposit. that's why you'll hear stories of money laundering large amounts and narcos and their associates having million of dollars stuffed inside the walls of the houses.

We recently had a generous "all cash" offer for our Baja house. Not a check- all bills, But what could we do with it? We could legally take $9,999 north with us every trip for a few years but the people who buy with cash are also the most likely ones to steal it back and net the house for free. There was no safe way to execute the transaction without putting ourselves at risk- so we begged off. Even if we got all the money back to the USA- current history shows they will still come after you to get it.

La Jornada: Gordillo, SNTE y PGR, inmiscuidos en juicio por valiosas obras de arte

"La Maestra" is Gordillo of the SNTE. The thief had a house on the wáter in Coronado Cays worth several million they confiscated last year.

What gets me is how many in the teachers union of Mexico continue to support her. Don't they understand that she was ripping THEM off???

You could always meet them at a bank NOB in a large city far from where you live, put the $$$ in a safety deposit box. Doesn't help you at all when it comes time to spend it, but at least you will have solved one problem.

The big deal now is all the teachers unions are protesting the education reform laws. They have to be certified and for example the local teachers unión in Chiapas and in Michoacan CNTE have many uncertified teachers working there but are in the unión and the unión wants the laws changed. I also presume SNTE has some uncertified teachers teaching and in the different states certification was not a big issue before.

There is also a matter of getting a "plaza" or in English, a tenure, is a senior academic's contractual right not to have his or her position terminated without just cause. The abuse SNTE was doing was letting senior teachers when retiring selling their tenure to the highest bidder. Also in some states and in some backwood regions tenured SNTE teachers would show up to work only 2 days a week and recieve full pay and benifits and the SNTE supported this abuse. The unions are much more powerful here than NOB.

In Baja Norte the Baja Teachers Unión pays more and has a higher pension. When the SNTE moved in soliciting teachers to join them years ago they did so very aggressively and eventually had the majority signed up. Now the SNTE tells the Federal and State run schools who can work there and what hours they can work. Guess who got shafted?

I imagine the new education reforms will get rid of this and put the hiring and scheduling into the hands of the school board administrators and school directors.

And now you understand why they are protesting so fervently. Lots to lose with the new reform. I hope Peña Nieto stands fast and doesn't give in to the pressure...

Thanks "desertcpl" nice find!

One only has to wonder how long all this has been going on?

Just imagine where Mexico and it's people would be if all that money actually went into education.
