AP - Authorities in San Diego say they've dismantled a ring of Mexican drug traffickers responsible for nine murders, including two where the victims' bodies were dissolved in acid.

A county grand jury indictment was announced Thursday.

Besides murder, the men are charged with the attempted murder of a police officer in suburban Chula Vista, and several kidnappings that resulted in hundreds of thousands of dollars in ransom payments.

Nine of the 17 men charged are in custody. Authorities say three others recently were killed in Tijuana, Mexico, and the others are at large.

The nine victims were killed between 2004 and 2007. The bodies were found in the San Diego area.
