Default Help---technical question

I cannot think that this is a problem with my computer because it does not happen with other forums.

If I make a long post, it gets to where I cannot see what I am typing. It just bounces up. After I type, I scroll down to see if what I wrote made any sense, and it is really difficult to make changes. I try to highlight etc. to delete, it bounces back up where I cannot see what is happening---thus I am working blindly.

OK, maybe I need to not be so verbose as it happens when I reach the end of the little box. Does this happen to everyone?

Thanks
Diane

Diane if you scroll down you will see that the box never filled up and I could always see what I was doing.
I do not have a clue so we will have to wait for BajaGringo to log on and see what he has to say.
I have the equivalent of 63 lines of type and no problem.

Thanks!
You are more verbose than I am. Thanks for trying it. I hope BajaGringo knows what is happening as it really is annoying.

Now, if you all tell me it is my fault, I will know you have been talking with John--he says that is the real reason he married me---he needed someone to blame.

I thought of 12 wise a** replies to the statement above and have decided that it is best I not post any of them.
Sometimes it does seem I am getting either wiser or maybe more cautious in my old age.

I am still trying to understand what the problem is? Legs is right, the preview function should make it easy to review your post and the post box remains below to make any edits as you see fit. Then just hit the preview button again and it will refresh your view with the edits made. When you are happy with it just hit the submit button...

I guess the problem is difficult to describe---it happens while I am typing. After I fill the box, I can no longer see what I am typing while I type. The screen bounces and what is being typed is not visable. So I type a sentence, stop and scroll down to see what I typed. Then it is very difficult to edit what I type. Let's say I want to delete something, I place the cursor and the minute I hit the backspace or delete button the text disappears below where I can see it---so it is hit and miss.

It really is strange and I have never had this problem before????

I use firefox but let me see if there is some way I can duplicate what is happening to you in explorer and adjusting different settings. I don't believe this is something from the forum software...

I use Firefox also maybe that is why I can not duplicate the problem. :?:

Yep; doing it for me too; IE8, version 8.0.6001.18702.

I pasted the text from Hillbilly Hoods into a reply field for this thread; normal until you try to highlight/edit below the limit of where you can see without scrolling.

When you scroll further and try to highlight, the "bouncing" looks to me like what happens when you've clicked on something to highlight/move, hold the left click down, and then move the cursor past the edge of the field like you are trying to highlight more of the text or move something in a list.

I think IE8 is interpreting any highlighting below what is seen initially as a scroll-up command from the highlight cursor.

Thanks Marty---I am glad to see it is not just me.

Now here I am on Firefox so now I will see if it does it again. I will continue typing until I reach the bottom and then try the highlighting etc. Suddenly, I am at a loss for words, which John says is impossible.

Let's see, I could quote the Gettysburg Address, or use the old typing lesson I still remember from high school while leaning to type---WAY before comupter days---heck, the class only had one electric typewriter and it was one of those two ton IBMs---the ones that when you hit the carriage return button, this monster would badly bruise anyone who happened to be walking by. OK, here it goes

Now is the time for all good men to come to the aid of the party. Now is the time for all good men to come to the aid of the party. Gees, we didn't even see how it should have been, Now is the time for all good men AND women to come to the aid of the party. Almost at the end now, so I will soon see if the bounce occurs.

Of course, if the bounce does not happen, I should be typing blindly anyway. OK, I know, the moderators test was far more interesting to read.

No bounce yet, so I will now try to highlight.

Looks like it may be Internet Explorer as this is working fine!

Thanks!
Diane

Glad that one was such an easy fix. I just did some checking and turns out there are lots of complaints on IE8, especially with php forms. I have noticed lately that Microsoft just seems to be pushing stuff out there more and more and allowing the general public to be the beta test team. Some genius must have thought they could save some money this way...
