MEXICO CITY (AP) — President Felipe Calderon's government is raising salaries for his drug war's soldiers and marines.

Calderon made the announcement during a ceremony Friday to honor the military.

Troops will be paid $77 more a month — adding to starting pay of a little more than $600. Calderon says salaries have doubled since he took office in 2006.

Drug violence has hit record levels with more than 15,000 casualties since 2006.

On Friday, police in western Michoacan state found body parts of three people in plastic bags in Morelia, and two federal police and an alleged hit men were killed in a shootout near Apatzingan.

In southern Chiapas state, a shootout left two state officers and four alleged hit men dead in Tuxtla Gutierrez.

I couldn't agree more, would be a wise investment on the Govt. behalf to end all of the nonsense. The wages paid here are poor at best considering all that they are up against every day.

That is not a lot of fun.. standing outside in the elements 24/7 looking at cars... yeah, I know it's their job
