Cabo Tourist Assault/Robbery
Charlotte couple robbed during Mexico vacation Not sure if the assailants could smell the $1000/cash in his wallet. One wonders about prior surveillance/targeting; they picked them just because they were walking in a vulnerable spot? |

" Samuel Pugh. "I didn't know what to do. I just pulled my wallet out and I had about $1,000, and I gave it to them and they just took off running and that was it."
He handed it to them!!!!Left "most" of their belongings behind?? Didn't call authorities......... |

Re: Cabo Tourist Assault/Robbery
I would've handed it to them...gladly.
Taking your stuff is nothing compared to assaulting you/taking your life. There is almost always more (unflattering?)"backstory" involved with cases like this. Anyone remember the Canadian(?) assault/shooting(?) some months/years ago there? I seem to vaguely recall something like that; followed them to their hotel door or somesuch... |

Yes they had every reason to be terrified, but Cabo is not exc;usive to such events, these things occur all over the world. People now-a-days are out of work and money which makes them do desperate thing in order to survive day to day. It's a sad situation.

Re: Cabo Tourist Assault/Robbery
That sucks. Being victimized is always traumatic. It is a shame they did not make a report with the police for whatever that would be worth. I would not have left my other belongings there.
Unfortunately the predators hang where there is prey........I won't even bring up my alter boy days! |

Re: Cabo Tourist Assault/Robbery
From the expression on her face alone, during the interview however many hours after the attack, I can understand why he voluntarily gave them his cash....and it WORKED! He accomplished what he hadn't been able to do with guns in his face....it caused the bad guys to leave immediately without inflicting further harm to either of them! I don't even want to think about what may have happened if he'd only had $200 pesos with him! It is too bad that they felt they had to leave their belongings behind & just get the hell outta Dodge!! But I, too, would have reported the incident to both the US Consulate & the local police.

Re: Cabo Tourist Assault/Robbery
Crime occurs just about everywhere there are people.
I do have some strong reservations about the original posted story. Not going to say nothing happened, but there's all kinds of missing info. The crack journalists at WCNC provided about 40 seconds of info. If they were staying in any of the typical hotels in the area, there would have been conspicuous information about storing valuables. In fact, most hotels have in-room safes. What doofus stroll around late at night carrying $1000 in their pocket? They say they were so upset, they left most of their belongings behind. So, does that mean they walked to SJD and sat outside waiting for the terminal to open in the morning? The incident supposedly occurred at 11:30 at night. Would it not make sense that they would go back to their room? And there they could have packed? Or could have told someone on duty at the front desk? I just have to wonder why this story was run while lacking almost any detail. There are dozens of hotels in the area. Where did this attack take place? In which town? Between towns? I don't wish to diminish the trauma that may have been experienced, but five masked guys with guns? Most of the tourist areas are extremely well-lit. Geez. |

Drug deal gone bad?...... you do bring up legitimate questions..
Perhaps they could get a room at the Extended Stay America in Huntington Beach CA. Think they might have a few vacancies about now..
