![]() ![]() By tag I surmise you mean "signature?" You were in the right place; it's User CP>>Edit Signature(about midway down on the left.) |

See? That's why I like having Marty around - I just get too technical. I sent Mike a PM on how to add thread SEO tags (which an OP can do).
I'll just stay out of it and let Marty handle the questions from now on... ![]()

Somehow Ride Sharing sounds like hitchhiking while paying for part of the gas to me. Hitchhiking in trucks and cars and vans while paying for gas in Baja has a long and colorful history Im sure. The practice has potential for fun, adventure and death. I see some obvious differences between highway travel and air travel; on the road, if you learn, over time, that the owner of the van acts and looks like a drunken Freddy Kruger, you can step out and go your own way. In a plane that escape route is closed until you hit the dirt strip in some really remote area far from roads or people or water or salvation.
The allure of visiting remote areas in a plane can be diminished by the fact that once there you are stuck with the company of the pilot and the other strangers you have signed on with while being isolated and unable to go your own way. You will be forced to sleep, hip by thigh with your travel mates in whatever rustic accommodations are close to the plane, the landing patch. And you wont be able to take with you much sporting equipment or food/booze/comforts. Of course when and if the gas sharing pilot lands at populated locations with other accommodations available, you then have more options including catching a bus and abandoning the group for a longer, perhaps more comfortable return home. That leaves the pilot and the other gas sharers miffed and non plussed at having to pitch in for more gas. Mike, young daredevil thrill seekers might be your best market; some looking for a little danger, some swashbuckling beer guzzling try anything once guys. They wont care if you break a part and they have to find another way home that will just make their adventure tale more colorful. If, with the plane, you want to make more friends, do more flying, the Need a ride (to and from the western U.S.), will share gas crowd is all over Todos Santos and you can see their lists in the Baja Western Onion. You could shuttle lots of those people back and forth and rack up lots of fun air miles all for just your share of the gas. |

Actually there are a number of cost-of-gas sharing riders that fly back and forth from San Quintin to the border out of the local Magaña airstrip. Most folks here in need of that service seem to know who to talk to so as to put your name on the "list". I haven't used it yet but I am sure I will one of these days.
Have you flown into the Magaña airstrip Mike?

Osprey - yes , it doesn't work for everyone. most if not all of your concerns are covered in my detailed waiver and contract for eco-adventure travel and guide consulting services. I have been doing FAA legal shared cost and charity trips for 25 years now beginning as a volunteer with The Flying Samaritans since 1985. I have endured mechanical problems twice in that time which caused slight inconvenience. I carefully match my riders - most of the time, since i only have 3 seats avail - they match themselves.
it's about ADVENTURE - if one can't hack a little adverse challenge now and again he should remain in the comfort and safety of his couch with a TV. hahaha. You're only as old as you want to be... LIFE - live it !! |

No - not excactly. for the SQ area i prefer the Los Pinos strip 1/2 mile from Cielito Lindo and next to the road. the Sams have had permission for that one for eons.
I might give Magana a try tho. |
